As mentioned previously in an earlier 2018 Parma Checkpoint Cup announcement, the SCRRA will again be using the JK Hawk Retro 7R7R motors in a hand out format for the Can Am race on Saturday, January 27, just like we did at the 2017 Checkpoint Cup and Summer Western Classic.  Each racer will again be allowed to purchase a maximum of (3) marked and numbered Hawk 7R7R's and racers must run the motor or motors they were assigned to on entry.

The only change is that this time we will be running the Hawk Retro 7R7R short shaft M28 version as hand outs. Identical to the regular 7R7R's except with a shorter end bell shaft and these marked motors will be legal in the F1 race on Sunday.

                                                           hawk m28 small.jpg

As usual the SCRRA will assist any racer with motor break in, cutting of shafts and pinion installation.   More to follow shortly with a list of race sponsors and some 2018 Checkpoint Cup poster pics!...........and here's wishing everyone a GREAT 2018!   :good:

Why did you pick the short shaft version?

The choice of the short shaft HR's is about the wisest decision I've seen with handouts.  The short shaft version was condemned in that H7's could somehow be slipped through as passing for HR's. So there are thousands of good, but otherwise 'illegal'  motors sitting in storage.  In any handout program, the motor ISN'T ever the issue because everyone takes the luck of the draw.  Whoever has the best setup, driving skills and some luck will be A main contenders.

Brian,

Why did you pick the short shaft version?

            Greg,

The SCRRA had been hearing all the stories (although never really seen anything.......) about some issues with the newer Hawk Retro 7R7R motors so we just decided to give the older 7R7R M28 version with the short shaft a try.  We've had great luck with the Hawk 7R7R's in our last 2 major Can Am hand out motor races and figured as long as the motors are the same for everyone what could it hurt. Also, cutting shafts and the short shaft M28's have been legal out here for a while in all of our monthly races so these motors aren't just limited to this one event, we can run them all year long.  :)

that is a nice one, TonyP flying V, 3+1 0.047 wire per side, interesting wire pan setup that reinforces the hinge wires. a little heavy at 94 grams, but very hooked up

I'm favoring the 2nd from left, a short car built by TonyP from Warmack parts, 3  0.047 wire per side, if it is not too twitchy, I will run it.

That's cool, because, about everywhere else the M28 is illegal.

Just out of curiosity, where else or when can I run this motor after the race? Or is this a one race and can it motor?

Bill, I'm pretty certain you could run them in the D3 Hardbody races at BPR (3rd and 5th Sundays), too.

RETRACTION:  I recently posted a close up picture of what I believed what the short shaft 7R motor.  It was not.  I have deleted that post.  My apologies to anyone I may have confused from that post.
