I have another rookie question. Recently I have bought paint masks, flames, checkerboard etc. All the masks have come with transfer tape and I

just don't get what it is for or how to use it. I mean if it were decals makes sense to me but for paint masks... Call me stupid but could some one please explain how they would be beneficial to me when applying paint masks.

Some of the masks (like flames) have very small, thin parts that easily get scrunched up.  The transfer tape allows you to keep those neatly arranged when you apply it to the body.  The transfer tape is low tack, meaning it has less stick than the masks themselves.

I've never done a checkerboard, but I think the transfer tape would make those a whole lot easier

Just try sticking them on without it...then you’ll answer your own question

It depends on the particular mask you're using. Some of the wideer pieces go from the backing sheet to a body just fine, others will stretch & distort as you take them off the backing sheets. A couple examples are, the Parma "drips & waves" go on directly okay. The Beach sheets of outline numbers are apt to distort on you before you get them off their backing.sheets. There is a myriad of other masks out there, so if you don't want to use transfer tape, see how yours come off their backing sheets & can be applied to a body.
