Take a look at these Lincolns from eBay. Check out the black one. I've been collecting H.O. cars for over 50 years. Hell, my uncle worked for Aurora.

I've never ever seen a black Lincoln. Looks legit to me. Would have to see it in person. It's a color that was perfect for this car but it was never made, or was it.

Odd that there are no ID cards in the boxes if these are all NOS.

What say you all?

I don't know anything about HO slot cars but I love the fact that he wants $5,200.00 for them and another $3.25 shipping.  :laugh2:

The black(?) one looks ruby red or root beer brown. One of their candy colors.

I seriously doubt the dark Lincoln is original Aurora.

I have seen various colors (including black) done very nicely by HO Detroit (Chris Mullis).

They are every bit as nice as Aurora and have fair value (tho NOT $5200 value!)

Interestingly, this seller has several HO Detroit cars currently listed on ebay.

Bob Beers is probably the guy who could tell you for sure. The black Lincoln is not listed as a production color in his Complete Color Guide to Aurora HO Slot Cars published in 2000.

He frequently sells on ebay under the ID "Mr Aurora" and has a website.

His email as listed on his site and in the book is rbeers@snet.net.

I asked the seller about this car.

He confirmed it is black and is not marked HOD on the underside of the body, which is the standard marking for cars from HO Detroit.

I have asked for his OK to post his complete reply here.

In retrospect, I should have asked him first before spouting off my opinion!

Here is my question and the seller’s response regarding the black Lincoln:

My question:

“I have a question about the dark (black?) Lincoln....

Is it an original Aurora production item? That color is not listed in Bob Beers Aurora guide book. Might it be an HO Detroit item?”

879285punt (seller) response:

“Keep in mind Bob Beers is just that: a guide. I have an HOD in black also this one does not have the HOD inside, looks correct. I do not plan on anybody to purchase the set, because it probably is the only black Lincoln to exist. Just like blue Indy racers, tan El Caminos, blue police cars, and pink Cheetahs. All were made but in a handful and after 50+ years maybe one or so survived. And now prove your have a really one and the East coast does not. Thanks for looking, Jim”

$5,200 for HO cars. Now I've seen it all.
