Round no.1

I started this topic and was lost through photo dump-it, but was never finished, now let's get this done.

the Manta Ray by Classic was popular and I was fascinated by the bubble top futuristic slot car.

I started from scratch to bring the Manta Ray back with a fresh look and a ready, easy to find chassis with very little modifications that will fit up and look like a modern RTR kit car but with out the box art.

It looks good and performs well and gets attention as the original Manta Ray did.

Let's get started with this simple project from left overs parts.

This is the resin plug that the Manta Ray bodies will be pulled from

24.jpg

The chassis is a JK Flexi, take a Dremel with a cut off wheel and remove the old body mounting side rails as shown, cut along the inside of the rails.

Add 1\16" brass stiffeners to the chassis as shown, add the body pin tubes. A recondition super 16D for performance.

That's it.

If anything it makes a interesting warm up car or a Sunday driver

Great!  Now I remember where that body came from!  You make these creations look so easy.  Well, at least you don't mind sharing with the rest of us, thanks!

Gene,

Another COOL one !

I seen you cut the chassis so I have to ask, what is the actual width of the body ?

Gene,

That is too cool.

Thanks for taking the time to do your very own slot car "How It's Made".

Gene,

All of your own creative works are true slot car historical "genius"!

Of course I have a "build" of this Manta Ray Evo body well in the planning stages as well!

I love the orange paint scheme. So right on!

Gene, have you had a chance to run it yet?  If so, how did it compare to it's big brother?

well I think it runs very well, easy driver, fun car.

Old vs New, = 1954 Volkswagen  vs  ZR1  :laugh2:

I think I will put together another one and up the motor,

I am not the best driver, but persistent.

By the way Gene, you sent me one of your test shots a while back.  I have it in a build box with a bunch of Classic wheels and a chassis.  Hope to get to it soon. :)

Hmm!  My thoughts exactly, build it to run with other Manta Rays, but with a few upgrades!
