On Ash Wednesday, I took the opportunity to take a drive through my old neighborhood.

Sitting in the same location, virtually unchanged from the the late 60's, was Troha's.

It was a short walk from my local raceway, B & C Hobby Shop.

We typically could only afford to get the fries, that were a quarter, for a large bag.

If I played my cards right, I would get mine free, for "going", for the older racers.

Anyway, here it is, other than the styrofoam clam shell, unchanged, 50 years later.

Still, easily, the best shrimp and cole slaw, I've ever had.

I'm not sure how old I was when I first realized, shrimp had tails. Lol

I'm pretty sure this is the same sign from 50 years ago.

A Foghorn Leghorn like chicken, fishing.

There's another later of shrimp under the fries.

The sign figure looks like Foghorn Leghorn to me :)

Mike, I haven't visited your "new" location yet.

I remember the "old" location had a hole-in-the-wall Mexican Food place next door, and an Italian Deli/Market across the street. Both had absolutely heavenly food :D

It's at least a half hour away, and in a pretty rough neighborhood.

I'd make the trip into a rough neighborhood for a legacy family run fried shrimp place!

While in MI for that year (last year), I looked for the old King's Fish and Chips that was on Ford Rd when I was a kid but didn't find it. Nor the Cloverdales's Dairy, also on Ford Rd. Sometimes time just moves on ... need to be grateful for the things that don't change when they are REALLY GOOD.

Maybe they were not as good as we remember. Mike, was this place as good as the old days?

It's what's for dinner and not just for slot races anymore!

Never complacent - striving to race to ever increasing levels of mediocrity!

The only thing I know about slot cars is if I had a good time when I leave the building! I can count the times I didn't on one hand!

Entitlement:
The notion that one can have their slot car racing and EAT IT, too!

I thought I made it clear how great it still was.

I wish I would of grabbed some salt for the fries. They could of used a tad.

I forgot to mention I wimped out, and drove about a mile away, to the Sam's Club, in Cicero, to eat it in the relative safety of their parking lot.

What's pretty amazing is their awesome breaded pork tenderloin dinner is only $6.15.

That shrimp is sitting on the seat of my Crown Vic, everyday car.

But it's pretty quick, and eats a lot of gas.

Those 2 places by me are still there.

Angelo's supplied some great lasagna when we had family over, last minute.

Los Dos is pretty famous.

Last time Cheater was in for the Sano (it was at the current location), he mentioned some app or website mentioned it as must try, when in the area.

He asked if it was nearby, and I said, yeah, around the corner from my house, where he was staying.

They have great food, but I'm used to bigger portions, when I eat Mexican.

Rough neighborhoods often have the best comfort food and no doubt after slot car racing many drivers need comfort.

After the Alpha and Lucky Bob's races, one of the Wisconsin racers, Ed Krause, would take me to El Jalisco, in a rough Milwaukee neighborhood.

One highlight, along with the great food, was getting hit with some flying food, right before a catfight broke out, between a couple girls.

The last few times we went, they had a uniformed security guard, and we got "wanded", to make sure we didn't have any weapons.

:laugh2: I love this thread  :good:

Swiss probably doesn't consider this "newsworthy", but I couldn't help but notice -

during Mike's marathon multi-day races, his lovely wife Ms. Jackie feeds him healthy food.

Even as he works the director's booth. Without good food, I doubt anybody could survive that amount of work and stress.

But nothing beats a good catfight: "flying food, right before a catfight broke out, between a couple girls".

You know it's a fun place when that happens :dance3:

Yeah, the only thing cooler than a fight, at midnight, between 2 girls in a rough Spanish neighborhood, is a fight at 1AM, orchestrated by GuGu, between 3 Brazilian strippers.

Way cooler.

I'll bet GuGu knows the best eateries in Brazil  :)
