Say what you will, I watched Daytona yesterday, or at least what they showed of it between the commercials. Just the race not the lead-up or the post race.

I was not happy with the outcome but more than that it was just not good racing. There is a certain excitement in it but good honest racing it is not. The more Nascar changes the further away from racing they get. I did agree with one thing Dillon said " it is what it is".

The paid drones (the people permanently attached to NASCAR's teat) have been saying it was the best Daytona in years.

I can't say anything about the racing quality since I no longer watch *any* racing and guess what? I don't miss any of it. About the only pure racing left, you remember, before Corporate $$$$$$$ dictated how the "show" should be, is motorcycle racing (all forms) and maybe boat and airplane (I don't follow those).

It sucked.

Why?

What would you do to improve it?

A rich kid decided to dump a race driver he couldn't pass on the last lap. NASCAR does nothing.

A lot of airplane racing is phony. I know a guy who entered one once, he had the slowest plane in the race so everyone was told to followed him till the last lap and then they all passed him. So it was actually a one lap race.

The driver's want to get rid of the restricter plates. Maybe they're on to something. It seems at the super speedways is where we see this type of "racing".

I've seen a lot of Nascar races without restricter plates that look like a follow the leader after about 10 laps. Looks just like an F1 race instead of a 190 mile per hour, side by side, sliding through the turns, three abreast, slug fest.

Regardless of the bad press and perceived rigging with NASCAR, it is a patriotic sport.   I was bummed when Chase Elliot was taken out.  Many top drivers were taken out.  If you look at the replays of the last lap, you can see Aric actively blocking both Dillon, Wallace and everyone else.  It looks evident that draft air pressure worked against Aric when he attempted to block Dillon one too many times and he took himself out.  It was eerie  that the #3 symbolic car was the winner 20 years later.  If that was all choreographed,  it went off in military fashion.

The little I watched I didn't know how many laps to go because of the segments.  No attachment to the drivers.  Darryl Waltrip is OLDER THAN DIRT.  Who cares because they are going to do it 35 more times until fall.

It's just not exciting when the circus comes to town every week.

It was the first time I said to myself........ I'm so bored & don't care, this is what it must be like for non racing fans to watch a race.  Hours of going in a circle, nonstop talking to gin up excitement where it don't exist, crash after crash and ended up with less than 10 cars and dirty driving.

Job security for the fab shops.

Only good thing about the race was nobody got hurt.

Saw some good saves though. Just sucks that so many drivers got caught up in other guys wrecks.

Bad when a longtime fan has this race on while he is working on slot cars and can't even tell you who is leading as he isn't paying attention and doesn't care about any drivers or cars anymore.

One thing that might make it better is a car with a movable front bumper.   When the bumper comes in contact with the back of another car it moves and triggers a spike to flatten the the front tire.   That might make a driver try to work out a pass and not just dump the guy in front of him.   I will say if you cut in front of a faster car, you deserve to be put in the wall.   All that said, I just don't care anymore.

The only racing I like to watch these days is Moto GP, Superbike and Isle of Mann TT. No aerodynamics, no radios between the pit and rider. Strategy is created by the rider while riding. No pit stops except in the TT. Just race. Even the Daytona 200 motorcycle race sucks as does most motorcycle road racing in the US.

Daytona 500,2025....Hybrid cars with self driving "House Cars" in the mix. Built in proximity braking to prevent bump drafting and "Earnhardt Passing".

One rule I would like to see is a "One move" block rule. Like they have/had in F-1. You can only make one block. There would be more passes and less crashes. And they got to fix the aero quirk that gets a car loose when another car comes up on the inside rear quarter. That one gremlin crashed out a bunch of good cars.

For about 5 years we used to camp the weekend at the NASCAR and Indy races at Fontana. The roar and feel of the race was most of the rush. The race a bit hard to follow. I domt follow NASCAR that much anymore. Seems to be a bit boaring now days. Part blame to announcing.
I have been following Supercross. I went to my first race and was able to watch practice down front about 60 feet away by the triples during the end of 2 stroke era. Been hooked since.

You want to see good racing, go see a 410 sprinter ( Winged or not ) on dirt, or the AMA flat track Nationals.

Maybe the only racing worth attending is your local dirt track.  We have a 1/3 mile track.

Races are supposed to be 500 miles long!! NOT IN STAGES!!!! Nascar SUCKS now---and that was NOT a win!! He punted Almirola out of the way to take the lead---he wasn't fast enough to win!!!

Same thing happens in slot racing.

I like the segment thing where they get extra points for the top ten places but I wish they wouldn't have a yellow flag, just score the points and keep going.

Hard to compare slot racing with real car racing, when it comes to "punting".

While there is dirty air in slot racing, there isn't being sucked along in the draft.

If a racer is able to nerf another car, that is in clear traffic, he is clearly faster.

IMO, slot racing is a way more fair and pure form of racing.

No BS, losing the gap you've built up, on other cars, just because some other racer wrecked.

There is NO ONE on this planet that would ever convince me restrictor plates help to make safer racing conditions.Cannot accelerate away from anyone in a dangerous situation.

I beg anyone to get on Youtube and watch either the 1969 or 1970 Daytona race and tell me HOW these new million dollar  cars are SOOOO much of a better handling car than those cars of then?  I remember seeing Danica Patrick's car "floating" in the infield last year.Cannot steer one or control one when it is airborne !

And yea, WTF is it with racing in stages????  What is that????
