Hey board experts,

Why am I no longer able to embed YouTube videos?

In my older posts, I could just paste the YouTube iframe link to embed and it worked perfectly. Today the iframe copy paste did not work :unknw:.

Is it the new Firefox, or was the board software somehow changed?

Edit: This is what happens:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube....TeXcoQH-g?rel=0" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Schöne Grüße (Kind regards)

Working fine for me. I copied the address and pasted it here. Simple.

Firefox. Don't know which version, don't know how to tell. It automatically upgrades to latest version.

I don't have Firefox, but try this. At the top of the main page you'll find a line of search words such as "File", "Edit", etc. Someplace near the far right side is "Help". Click it & get a drop down list. Near the bottom, or at the bottom of the list, look for "About Firefox". When you click on it, you'll open a box that contains the version or revision number you have & other information about it. This is pretty much standard for any Windows application, but everything has an exception.

Benno,

YouTube uses multiple link formats for their videos, that is, a single video can be reached via multiple YouTube URLs.

To have a video embed here automatically, you have to use the URL format the IP.Board media tag is looking for.

Easiest way I have found to get to the correct URL format is to search YouTube using the video title, making sure you get back to the same video you are wanting to embed. The URL that comes up via internal YouTube search has always been the correct format for me as best I can recall.

I could show the URL format from the media tag but trust me, the procedure given above is quicker and simpler.

And because of the IP.Board YouTube video media tag, there is no need to post YouTube iframe links. In fact, it would be best if you didn't, as I have adjusted the media tag to show YouTube videos slightly larger than the default dimensions.

Just post the bare URL, not as a link. Here's Pablo's YouTube video link from post 2 above, crippled before the colon so it won't embed.

As to why your iframe link may have worked in the past, I have some ideas but am too far behind to research it, after traveling to TN twice in the last eight days and helping a friend demolish and replace the hardwood floor in my kitchen.

And it doesn't really matter; just post the correct format URL and the videos will embed.

Test:

It does work! :good: :sun_bespectacled:

Sometimes it is just too simple. :dash2:

Thank you, Greg!

But now I'm no longer allowed to edit it in the balancing thread. Maybe someone can find the time to do it for me.

Wow, now I'm also able to embed in our German forum.  :dance3:

Thanks again, Greg!

Benno,

PM me with the link to the thread that needs to be edited and tell me exactly what I need to do. Now that I am back working the blog, I can get to it shortly I think.

FWIW, when you make a post, its edit window is open for eight hours. After that, I will need to assist you in editing the thread.

I'm curious what Greg told you to do and how that worked better than my simple suggestion?

He says it with a lot more style and complicated words, I'll admit. :mosking:

I called Pablo to explain further. The point he wasn't seeing was that YouTube has multiple URLs that will reach the same video, as he's never had that problem.

I think that so long as one is within YouTube and locates a video, the URL will be the correct format.

If someone sends you a YouTube link and you click on that to reach the video, it can sometimes not be the URL format needed for Slotblog to auto-embed. By doing the search I detailed above, the URL in the address bar seems always to be properly formatted.

Pablo,

You said "address," Greg said "URL,"
That was what helped me, but it wasn't your fault of course.

And don't forget the time zones between us. I didn't found the time to test it yesterday at "my" evening.

Now I have to true a comm before going to bed .

I think what Pablo is getting at you just click on and copy the address as shown above, and paste into your post.

With me, on Firefox, if it advances to the next random video, in the case of this one, something about body molds, my computer locks me out from copying it from that toolbar area.
