I don't believe that this has been posted before - a little old but worth a read. From The Times, a daily newspaper outside of Atlanta, GA.

Thanks, MG, nice article in fact.

Wonder if that raceway is still open...

Cheater will know for sure if it still exists. I recall hearing about it in the past, but not recently.

That second photo is an orange track, even if the photo shows otherwise.  :)

The Taaffe's Bullet Raceway is long gone. Raced there literally hundreds of times, if you include its prior location near Gainesville College in Oakwood, just south of Gainesville. I easily could have been in that picture, but don't recall anyone taking pics for an article any time I was there. The second guy beyond Terry in pic #2 could easily be Bill Smith, who I traveled with for a couple years.

The track shown in pic #2 was originally in Ray Gardner's Bullet Raceway on LaVista Road in Atlanta and I raced there pretty much from the day it opened in August 1991 (I have a dated Bullet opening enduro plaque on my box) until the day it closed roughly two years later.

It was an original American orange that was retopped by Damon DaPron (with the hump on the straight removed and the esses on the bridge eased slightly). It is my all-time favorite track to this day. After Ray's raceway closed I raced on that same track in five more locations in the greater Gainesville area under multiple owners. Wish I knew what happened to it, but no one seems to know. No idea why it shows as having purple sides in the photo, as I am almost certain the Formica sides were never painted.

As an aside, after the raceway shuttered, the Taaffes divorced and I understand from a common friend that Linda still has the parts inventory from the raceway to this day.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

400 hours of work in a flexi? I could buy 40 hours, not 400.
Typo? Cheater, what say ye?

The good ol' days, when you could use lacquer paint on a 7 thou Kelly NASCAR body - the paint would instantly split the rear end all the way up. You still had 1/8" of bumper but the entire rear end blew right out. :dance3:

I'd say the error is in the word "car." It should have been "cars."
