Wow! – that is an awesome raceway. Everything a slot racer could want. Beautiful – the West Coast is jealous but wishing you all the best!

Charlie,

Bill Pinch has been a successful raceway owner for over 25 years, something few can claim.

It's a great facility with a great owner.

Is this the Florida raceway that had a big tri-oval with a roadcourse on the infield that could be manually cut in or out of the trioval? Ogilivie later made some convertible tracks similar to the one I'm thinking of.

Yea! Tony and I were just there this afternoon. It is also Bill's birthday. Had some cake and veggies.

Happy Birthday, Bill.

Bill,

No. You are describing the track in Holly Hill, The Race Place. Another great raceway in Florida. Probably the most unique track in the USA.

No, Bill, it isn't.

The raceway you're thinking of is The Race Place in Holly Hill, near Daytona Beach. Owned by Greg Walker.

Bill's business model is one to be copied and modeled elsewhere. He has regular racing programs for HO, 1/32, Retro, Wings, Drag, Stock Cars, Flexi, birthday parties, and an annual mail-in drag race. He also has supplied painted bodies and pre-mounts for many of the OEMs and sells under the name Race Pace. The store layout and location are optimized for low floor space and affordable cost.

I have talked to him about running national level races, but he is not interested, not part of his business model.

You have to respect his business decisions, he has been open continuously since 1981 in three different locations. By the way, the only reason he moved is landlords raising the rent to unaffordable.

The facility is first class, as good as anywhere.

Chris,

Did you know Bill is a former USRA National President? It was quite a long time ago

Yes, was there for all of that! We sent 10-12 people every year to all the big races. He has always been very active with the bigger picture and is a voice of reason for the raceways dealing with regional rules.

And, Bill is hosting two State level championship races soon.

On Saturday, March 31, the GRRR group will be racing at Bill's place running 4-1/2" stock cars, Can-Am, and F1.

On Saturday April 14, Bill is hosting the FSCS. We will be running 4" NASCAR, LMP, and GTP.

I remember dropping in on Bill when he was in Rockledge, on our way driving to Disney. I had my stuff with me and got dusted by his racers in a I-15 race on the Orange. Was '86 or '87.

I think that was where I purchased a I-15 chassis built by Bill Price. Beautiful hand bent wire chassis of extrodinary design. Never saw construction like that anywhere.

If you raced on the orange, I was there. We had that track wired, I ran a WR, 2.865 in I15, which held up for a while. G27 ran 2.4 laps. The track was a monster, very hard on the inner lanes and esses. You raced the track and not the other cars. I miss it!

Did that track end up at Fun 4 All in Clearwater, FL?

That track was a monster. I remember being sooo hooked up, but you guys had the 'home field advantage.' I had the horsepower, but not the handling. I was set up for running on a King (811 Pitstop) and couldn't get through the esses. The deadman turn was flat out!

We had an orange on Long Island, but it was used for Womps and rentals.
