The latest shipment of JK short shaft Hawk Retro motors have the unique markings shown below.

JK has submitted them to the IRRA® BoD, and we have concluded they are the correct specifications, and are approved for immediate use in Premier events.

Interesting. How long have they been in the works? We're still working our way through the short shaft 7R motors out west.

Is the latest version with RRRRRRRR markings available at distributors?

Any track tests of them have been done with the BoD members?

I was just thinking to myself, we really could use more motor options in Retro...

Just a question of no importance, but why a short shaft?

Give it some more time, Eddie. Someone will chime in and tell us we should run built motors.

So since the short shaft 7Rs aren't available or won't be anyhow in the near future how long will it take to waste the racers money and ban them since they will become not readily available (like the Hawk "R" motors) very soon.

Will,

Check with Ken O for some super blast versions!

I've just got some old 7R motors that I hope I can keep up with!

Testing has shown them to be the same as the short shaft 7Rs. They will be the hand-out for RetroPalooza. Port Jeff has them now.

This could be a solution to the problem that has engendered endless whining. Perhaps the whining should be suspended pending a cause to whine further? Or is whining now an end unto itself?

If they are the same then why do they have different markings? Are the racers going to get burnt again?

I would guess so that everyone can tell which "batch" they are, in the event they perform differently than the current 7RSS.  Hopefully they will be more like the old "R" motors, especially as far as break-in goes.

Gil,

It appears to have been a mistake by the manufacturer.

I personally, am glad. It makes it easy to identity the latest batch, from the older one.

Everything else on the motor appears the same. I metered one yesterday and it is the same range as the long and short shaft 7Rs. It has exactly 65 turns on each pole.

I've learned my lesson. I won't buy any until other racers spend their funds to find out what these motors are like. :)

No need to incite the racers with concerns.

I think everyone got the info they need.

I'll lock this, at least for the moment.

Greg can decide if this thread needs to continue.
