1 inch drop arm looks just like the ed Lewis chassis without cutouts around motor designed for champion can,1970s era.

Any photos of this chassis exist or is someone supposed to build from imagination?

Besides Bill's important question, real craftsmanship is worth...well...let me cipher fer a moment (3 dollar signs + 3 dollar signs...scribble scribble)...around $$$$$$!  It would be good to see a picture of the thing though.

What about PDL's idler gear car?  Early issues of MAR had a story and pictures. Maybe he remembers some details.

Anyone ask Dom?

With no pic, how do you build it, somewhat accurately?

If the chassis still exists, why wouldn't Roy post a pic of it?

Probably cheaper just to make a ridiculous offer for the original.   Between $200 for pictures and $300-$400 to build it, it would be cheaper just to offer $500 for the original and save yourself $100 or more.

There should be a significant difference between a replica and the real thing.  $500.00 may not be enough.....

Mike, I like that chassis in your post #12.  What was the purpose of the idler gear chassis? Was it something other than moving some of the weight closer to a car's middle?

Yes, to move the car's weight forward, thinking it would simulate running a lighter motor, which we had been killing ourselves, to do.

I, hastily, put on the solid mounts, to get the car on the track, one weekend.

The crazy thing is, I barely remember actually taking laps with it.

I must of been real underwhelmed, that I didn't even redo it, with steels tubes, floating in square or rectangular tubing.

Maybe, one day, I'll put it together again.

I would, but I don't see any historical significance to it.

I never engraved chassis because I seldom sold a chassis.

Maybe once or twice.

I think I sold one of early handcut perimeter chassis to local racer, Nick Cserscics, before he turned Pro.

And the ones with some historical significance, didn't necessarily, escape the garbage can.

My 88 World's winner wound up stripped for parts, and the center section tossed, because with it handcut from A2 tool steel, the center rail broke twice, in 2 different places, in the race.

Those parts, like the piano wire motor brace, might of wound up on my Nat's winner, from the same year.

That’s why I never had any of my old chassis. They were usually canabilized to build the next one.
