Was currious what others thought about having a little more practice race morning. If we start by 11 which looks like the plan now we would be done by 3 which is really early. Maybe 1130 tech close qualify for lane choice then race at noon? Also i see tom thumb and speed zone are 6 hr id be down for that but i understand completely if nobody else is lol.

If any racer is within a reasonable drive from this race you should consider going as the memories of running an enduro will last you a lifetime. I have great memories of my one 24 hour enduro at G&L raceway in 1968, 24 hours on two handwound 26D's (two motor limit) by Jay Jett and myself, two man teams. Do it, you'll be glad you did.

I know they have more guys per team up there also so that helps. Im not sure how many 15 minute heats my hand can take so i may be better off if we stayed with 4hrs haha. Team #8 is all set and ready to roll... Mike Bresett, Kyle Hall, and Aaron Rothstein

With the 4 hour enduro about 2 weeks out, we have team pairings to publish. These pairings are not cast in stone but should be pretty good depending on who actually can attend, baring last minute conflicts. The team pairings are:

One more announcement: since Bob Rondinone, our race director, wanted to drive also and my heart surgery business, Bob is going to drive one of my segments in each 1/2 of the race. When Bob drives, I will be race director. I hope that this is OK with everybody.

Rules reminder:

IRRA GT Coupe chassis and body rules.

2 handout motors will be issued to each team.

3 sets of spec tires will be issued, JK medium hub Premium tires.

9:28 spec gear ratio.

15 minute heats with 1 minute change lane period. During the lane change period the teams are only allowed to move the car to the next lane and change the color sticker. Teams are not allowed to even turn the car over and inspect it.

All work completed under green conditions.

Pull cars off of the drivers straight only.

 

Track calls will be reviewed the morning of the race. Very few track calls will be allowed. For those drivers who make a track call outside of what's allowed, a 5 lap penalty will be applied. All riders are valid, but again, if its not a "rider" a 5 lap penalty will be imposed.

 

The race director will call out as many crashes as he can, so if you hear "donut" and you are on purple or black, you best beware when you enter the donut.

What about an "unmarshalable" car. It's easy to lose a car under the track on a Hillclimb.

We will review what constituents a track call on the morning of the race. But I can say that if a car goes somewhere where it would take a lot of time to get to the car, that will be a track call. An example would be if the car ended up between the track and the wall.

Due to popular requests, practice time has been increased from 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours.

 

1st, 2nd, and third place wall plaques have been acquired. Box plaques for 4th through 8th places are being shipped.

 

Also, all motors have been broken in to the point where a full wipe on the commutator has been achieved, nothing more. This took only 50 seconds (not minutes, good catch, Bobby) in water at 4.0V. It is my conclusion that these brushes are much softer than previous versions of the JK Retro Hawk. So beware, if you intend to break in the brushes any further.

 

I think that we are going to have a great race. I will see everybody on Saturday.

Has qualifying been considered for lane choice? What size are hand-out tires?

I came up with the idea of requiring a motor change midway through the race thinking that if a few teams had a dominate motor it would possibly level the playing field and put a bit of intrigue into the outcome. I still think it would have been fun, but hey, I think "night driving" with only the car's headlights is fun, too.  
Nonetheless it's going to be a great race!

If we had three motors maybe make one mandatory, I'd be cool with that but for two motors I'm not a fan.

Two hand-out motors will be issued to each team shortly after 9 AM. We considered Jay's request concerning a mandatory motor change and decided against it.
 
There are 16 hand-out motors with four spares. To get a spare, one of the hand-outs must have toasted itself during the race. If someone burns up a motor during practice, they will not get another motor until after the race starts.
 
As you know, the hand-out tires are JK medium hub Premium tires. They are around 0.820" to 0.825" out of the tube. But this has not been verified.
