I just had to get this toy, the motors are similar to what might have been used in 1/24 scale slot cars, but that is the only thing this toy has in common with a slot car!

That class of motor was used in Strom-Becker 1/24 tether car of the 1950s.

Great video John! 

 

I too also wanted one of those Johnny Speed toys when I was a kid, but never got one. My parents did get me the similar but 

substantially less impressive Eldon "Touch Command"  Corvette instead. At least it was red.

That is also what happened to me!

 

If you see the boy at the end of the video, he is holding an Eldon 'Touch Command" 'Vette!

 

And that boy was me, Christmas 1969.
