So if you want a nice tight fit in your oilites for alignment you might try a Slot.it axle.


Whole heartedly agree with that...
 
I use the Champion oilites with the Slot.it axles... a marriage made in heaven.

John,

I take it the Champion oilites and Slot.it axles you mention above are 3/32" diameter. The bearing shaft material you mentioned earlier seems similar to what we call "drill rod" here. A friend gave me 3' lengths of drill rod in both 3/32" and 1/8" sizes. Both are extremely straight and plated, straight enough for front axles. I used some of the 1/8" to make my daughter a knitting loom.
