I switched over to the current design Red Fox and haven't looked back. Fiber reinforced at first and more recently the carbon reinforced.
I've seen a few of the new airfoil blade HPs break.
Swiss gave me the idea of drilling the blade crossways and filling the hole with lead. My thought was added weight without the risk of breaking.
How have the HP blades treated you?
Which blade is faster for you?
Your experiences with today's guide flags?

Well, I had heard rumor that the Red Fox blades were faster on a King track. I didn't really believe it until I actually tried it!
Back to back tests with my Can-Am and F1 cars showed a half to a full tenth of a second quicker lap times with Red Fox vs. the standard Parma!!! I've never switched back.
i did try it on our flat track as wel – -but did not achieve any decrease in lap times there. No one seems to know why it works on our King at BPR??
I believe Bryan Warmack did the same thing with the same results!!

At the ISRA Worlds Horky ran them on all his cars. Horky/Recek won Production (C43), Tonda won 1/32 & 1/24 ES with Cahoza guides. Don't remember what Piero had on his F1.

Jim,
The break a guide in that manner takes real talent... if you want to call it that...

Jim is very talented. He has broken a couple lately. In all fairness, the sdewall has been taking a beating from lately from Jim.

Has anyone else had issues with the Red Fox graphite guide, or seen one damaged?

From your email, it sounds like your hit wasn't that bad.
What's the deal with two different gauge lead wires? Trying to get better centering?

On the oval track we ran on, the guide doesn’t even have to turn. The stiffer it is the straighter the car comes out of the bank.
I found this out awhile ago when I tested my Stock Car and forgot to loosen the guide nut. LOL. When I loosened it the car was looser and did not track as straight.

DZ told me the same thing about that oval a while back.
Methinks it's possible someone was too zealous during the threading process.

I broke my first guide flag ever in an Enduro last week. Snapped the post clean off.
Was a JK cut-down I’d chosen as otherwise I couldn’t get the C43 low enough.
Some marshal accidentally put the orange car into orange lane, never mind that it had a green sticker on it. ;-(

Yep, it was already about a degree.
It was a 12-hour Enduro. Too much angle = no braid life...

I tested the Red Fox vs. a Parma on my American King, and there was no time difference. When I tested, I used the same body mounting position for both guides so with the Parma there was a gap to the front of the body.
At R4 I ran a HP Boat Rudder guide in Can-Am. I honestly couldn't tell the difference from the Parma guide I ran the day before on the same car but was too lazy to take it back off LOL.

That's a Slick 7 guide?
I believe you're correct. But as Dan so nicely pointed out to everyone, I've somehow found a way to accomplish that bizarre feat with others, as well. In fact, I have a collection of three flags of various brands that I've destroyed this way.
For additional enlightenment, you should know that no collision was involved. There is a very tight, almost hairpin, turn on the track we use at The Doghouse. I go as deep as I can, hit full brakes, then pull the trigger all the way as I go out of it. Most times, no problem, but sometimes the rear of the chassis jumps up in the air while the front (and flag) remains in the slot. What you see in the above picture is the result.
Richard Sylvester explains it away as my "driving style."

I've seen him break an entire chassis in half. But in his defense, he does it while racing.
I know a guy who used to do it with his bare hands, fold it up like a taco.
I know another guy who can throw his cars all the way from the drivers station into his box at the pits.

Cheater,
Those turns aren't that tight. You never saw a John Ford 95 ft Odessa. I had an Odessa in my raceway and the turns coming out of the downhill end were very tight. It was an eight-lane track, not four.
