There was a scene in a slot car raceway on last night's TV show, The Americans, on the FX channel. It was totally unrelated to the plot except to show a main character's frustration (with life, in general) when he crashed. The show is about Russian spies, and this season is set in the late '80s.

The scene runs from 18.44 to 20.26 into Season 6, Episode 6. If anyone sees it, add what you know about the tracks seen. They look like old American Raceway tracks to me. Fitting!

Good snag, Eddie!

Agree about it most likely being an American track, simply because of the distinctive railing on the visible turn, although it looks like the Economy track, rather than the Deluxe version with the wide Formica sides.

Surely someone can tell us where this was filmed. The wide checkerboard stripe with the thin yellow band underneath it on the wall in the background has to be unique.

It was filmed at Buzz-A-Rama.

I think it might have been filmed at Buzz-A-Rama judging from the location of the Royal and the American yellow behind it. I took a short video with my phone and posted it on YouTube.

Nick says it was in post #3 and he should know because I'm pretty sure he's there a good bit.

Definitely Buzzy's.

Not sure if that style of body was available in the late '80s, but so what?

I like the raceway turn marshals and their matching shirts.

I guess Buzzy's bunnies weren't available. LOL.

Yep, definitely Buzzy's.

What happened to the steering wheels?

They used a backdrop that was made, and moved the steering wheels and put it back together.

I was there the week after they filmed the scene.

I bet Buzz pitched the bunnies.

I think they could have found a "body double/stuntman" for the actor in that first pic I posted above from any number in our active racing community.   :laugh2:

I was at Buzz-A-Rama a week or two before that scene was shot. Dolores told us about how they were going to remove the steering wheels and more importantly going to suspend Buzzy’s “no profanity” policy!

Thanks much for posting. My NY friends called the other day to let me know about this episode that they had just watched - in fact, they almost called me at 3 in the morning (my time) they were so excited to discover a slot scene for me!

Are they calling out "track" every time a car comes out?

Actually, he yelled out another word that ends in "ck" when he crashed.

It was filmed at Buzz A Rama in Brooklyn. I knew about it well in advance but Buzzy asked me to please not mention it on slotblog because of what happened the last time. The little clip was a 3-day process from setup to film to break down.

Joe,
No one, but you, believes Buzzy's Dale Jr. segment was cancelled due to Greg contacting NBC.
