Have you ever lined up for a race and a driver next to you starts some body movement....swaying, rocking or kinda moving with the car?

On a few occasions I have.

Annoying and distracting it is.

What strategy can you use to overcome the nuisance that it is?

Ball caps are my pet peeve.  Once had a guy take his beard & stick it out forward.  Between the beard & the hat I lost my car for half the straight.

Ive known a few guys to do this. Very annoying.

As long as they are not bumping into me it is no problem I am to busy watching my car and the track to worry about them. The ones I don't like are the ones that lean out over the track.

Did you ever stop to think that they may have a health problem that may cause this. Just tell them to quit racing and stay home because it bothers you. Or just make fun of them and hope they have a good sense of humor. Then you can tell the guy that doesn't move very fast in between heats and gets in your way. Or the guy that is always bitching about everything a everyone that caused him to lose. And on and on. Then see how long you have racing lasts. If you're that bothered by these things that much, your in the wrong hobby of mostly old men. SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP. And yes, I'm one of these guys. So if you see me just walk up and tell me to stay home. :laugh2:

I won’t say I am at all annoyed by guys moving around when racing, more like amused. I find it fascinating the differences between racers on how they “ interact” with their car. I was quite shocked to see a video of myself racing and find I have this little leg shuffle thing going on! All part of what makes us individuals I guess, and let’s face it, we are all a little weird......

Interesting comments from Red, since he is a swayer and I have to run next to him sometimes.

It is annoying, I find it hard to concentrate. But in his case, he is a great driver and he's courteous so that makes up for it.

If that's what it takes for him to win all those races, I wouldn't want him to change.

But by and large, I'd prefer the farter over the swayer :laugh2:

The best dancing driver I've ever seen was Jan Limpach in the 70's. :good: He had loose shoulder length hair in those days too.

Red, one of the locals here, used to have a couple beers & a big container of KFC chilli before every Saturday nights' race. I'll take a dancer any day over a farter. :laugh2:  Red was the same guy who once accused me of nerfing him in the bank. Then he realized I was running two lanes higher through the bank than he was. :)

Pappy, you're not weird, you're just different. :laugh2: Do not change, we like you just the way you are.

Boemker and I were on either side of a dancing racer. We asked him to stop. When he didn't we moved together and forced him to drive from behind us.

I seem to recall that many of the top racers from the 60's and early 70's were swayers, rockers and duckers. Mike Steube, Bruce Erickson, Tom Hanson just to name a few from the west coast. That sort of intense concentration I could handle, even flatulence on occasion, what killed a lot of us was the guys that did not shower or make an attempt to get clean. The body movements were just part of racing back then, so was cracking up when someone ducked low whil watching their car going down the straight only to have another car get tangled in their hair.

Ever watch a ski racer just prior to the Start House?  They visualize the course in their mind (while swaying back and forth).

This is Smokeio. He's probably the best in North America at setting up a 1/32 scale slot car. He's also one hell of a driver. He's the one who sets up Slot Car Corner's car for the Michigan 24. His driving style is a little unorthodox but you can't argue the results.

Cute story.
A guy I used to race with did that.  AND he wore shorts, even during the winter.

Well, one time totally by accident his bare leg touched the heat sink on my controller. (located about center of the cords between the handle and the clips.)
"That's hot" were his words as he moved away.   :laugh2:

Bumpers, Swingers, Swayers??

You have experienced nothing until you have raced and stood beside a head-swinging-pony-tailed-whacking teenage female racer!! :)  :)

In 2002, I had the pleasure of racing against Alicia Gilbert (Lee's daughter) in Seattle, when I made up the numbers at The Seattle Flats!!

I keep saying that I should take videos of all our club racers while they are at the driver's stand. Each one has a different poise and show some really funny facial expressions as they concentrate on their cars.

God knows what I look like when I race!

I do know that when I race, I am frequently asked to stand back so that others can see their cars down the long front straight. Unfortunately, I have to lean in and lock one of my legs into the side of the drivers' stand - if I don't, I will fall over as I lose my balance - seriously!!!!

Thanks for the input....there were some laughs to be had and some food for thought.

One of my local competitors has started doing the rocking thing and it just adds to his other annoying habits which prompted my thread.

Thanks again
