Fellas,

I'm looking for a instruction sheet for a Cox Cuccaracha Chaparral to see what parts are missing from a recent acquisition.

Peter show us pics of what you have,I am sure collectively we can let you know what is what.  Are we talking 2e soft body with the Cucaracha chassis or the 2D hard body with the same Iso design as in the Racha series ?

Martin,

It's the 2e with the soft body, I'll post some photos later today. For instance I know that there was a piece bent wire that connected a motor bracket to a wing strut...

I can post pics of mine also. The bent wire attaches to a special motor adapter made of white nylon, do you have that? Other that that all the running gear is the same as the Cucaracha.

This may help care of the LASCM

I have the paper numbers and the rubber band (missing from the photo) if you need them ?

Chaparral 2E "IFC" RTR

The most commonly found of these desirable and very influential slot cars is the Chaparral 2E IFC in its ready to race version. Using a virtually indestructible polypropylene body and wing, the model was set over a so-called iso-Fulcrum chassis (IFC) that was first introduced on the "La Cucaracha" RTR model a year earlier. The gray sponge tires were barely filling the wheel wells... The Cox NASCAR 3600 motor was able to pivot on its axis and actuated the rear wing through a small steel wire form. The "cockpit" was restricted to a piece of black paper on which the basic Cox driver was simply affixed with double-side adhesive tape. The box was rather attractive, the unfinished model being protected by a tall corrugated inner sleeve on which the trim parts were stapled along with assembly instructions.

Martin,

Here's some photos. I have the nylon motor attachment as well as the wing and struts,I should have photographed them as well. The bent piece of wire is missing.

Looks to be missing tail lights and exhaust as well as the interior platform and driver. I wonder if anyone ever offer the small chrome parts in resin ?

Looks like a nice clean body. Not sure about the resin repo parts but I do know the wire is made from .025" steel wire. If need be i wlil take good pics of mine with some diementions. Might take a few tries but not to tough if you have a a set of jewelry pliers. Cannot tell if the fronts are correct but you will need the grey rears on Cuc hubs.

Find some thin black card for the interior and the Cuc drivers are around.

Found a nice pic of the wing hook.

Martin,

Thanks for your help. I believe I have a driver (somewhere) as well as the grey wheel/tire combo. I also think that the paper stickers are available on the net.

There's probably an extensive article in an old Car Model or Model Car & Track magazine somewhere that will have some close up photos of the car.

Martin,

Great, thanks again. I've never heard of the site before, I ordered the wire part and the stickers. Going down to the dungeon to look for the driver bust, I'll post a pic if I find him.

With the exception of the bent wire, Classic Tin Toy has all the resin repop parts you need to make the body right. Be ready to cry at the prices, though.

Good call Todd. They do have the driver for $45 and the tail lights for $25 could not find the exhaust pipes when I search COX.

Then I searched chaparral and found the mirror for $8 and one for $5 (they look the same) ?

Lots of other stuff just looking for what you need. Be careful a lot of parts pics are miss titled or have the wrong pic. I.E Cheetah parts are called Chaparral etc.

Fellas,

Thanks for all of the info, I snagged a couple of pieces but left the driver there. I'm almost certain there's one somewhere in the dungeon...

Glad you found it Peter, Is it a Cox?. Would be easy to return it to factor colors if you do not like the unusual look.

Let me know if you need help. I actually like painting the drivers. I will post a pic of some I have done if interested ?

Martin,

I'm thinking of trying to remove the top layer of paint while not disturbing the original colors...I'm just not sure how to do that ?

Peter, if it were me I would strip and re-paint unless the paint is flaking in which case it might blow off. Can you send a pic?

Here are some I have painted.(some I did not ) I would be happy to paint yours if  its not your thing.

Sharp looking drivers Martin!  I recognize the two Cox drivers, but who made the other 7 or 8 with the bigger visors?

I believe there are Cox drivers with the lower profile heads (Cheetharacha etc). They also came with some Dynamic body's. Fact check me on those memories . There are some Revell drivers in the mix also and a MPC.

I did not do the 3 glossy sky blue or the 1 red suit drivers. But they will be redone at some point.

Really excellent painting, Martin. :good:   You must have a very steady hand to paint those stripes on the jackets so straight.....
