Triathlon Summary
The track was cleaned and sprayed after the last event and conditions were very good. The field was rather sparse with only four racers participating in the Triathlon held at Electron Raceway held on 5/24/18. With a four racer format, each competitor ran through a normal rotation of four lanes; however either one or two lanes were empty for each heat leaving one or two marshals to handle the incidents. This worked out okay for a couple of reasons. First, the four racers were experienced and quite familiar with Electron Raceway so there were few wrecks to marshal. Finally, two track call buttons are strategically positioned allowing marshals to stop the race. The track call buttons were used when a marshal could not get to the wreck in a timely fashion.
- In Trans-Am it was Rich, Mark, James and Ron for first through fourth respectively
- In the Mixed race it was Rich, James, Ron and Mark for first through fourth respectively
- In GT1 it was James, Rich Mark and Ron for first through fourth respectively.
The field consisted of three Camaros (Rich, Mark and Ron) and a lone 70 Barracuda. All four cars were evenly matched turning fast lap times from 5.016 seconds (Rich) to 5.121 seconds (Mark).
Mark was first in the barn with 87.1 laps. Entering the final heat Rich had completed 66.3 laps while James had completed 65.7. Both had a good shot at overtaking Mark. It seemed to me that James was pushing hard to try and overtake Rich. Unfortunately, James had an off or two while Rich ran a clean heat.
In the end, Rich won the race with 88.8 laps. Mark and James both finished with an identical lap and section count of 87.1 but Mark finished several inches ahead of James. So it was Rich, Mark, James and Ron for first through fourth respectively.
The mixed race was an all Ferrari 458 show. Rich, James, and Ron fought over three podium slots. Unfortunately, Mark was off the pace nearly .3 seconds per lap slower than the others. Rich was the quickest and most consistent of the bunch finishing first with 92.1 laps.
Going into the final heat, James was about a lap ahead of Ron. Both finished with an identical lap and section count; however, James finished several inches ahead of Ron. So it was Rich, James, Ron and Mark for first through fourth respectively.
James outdistanced the field in the GT1 race finishing with 96.8 laps, turning the fastest lap of the bunch (4.74 seconds) and running the most consistent race (95.59%).
Mark was first in the barn with 92.3 laps. Entering the final heat Rich had completed 69.8 laps while Ron had completed 68.4. Both had no chance to overtake James; however, both had a shot at overtaking Mark for second place. Both Rich and Ron ran good final heats of 23 and 23.4 laps respectively. Richs final lap tally was 92.8 enough to edge out for second place by about a half of a lap. Ron fell short of overtaking Mark by about a half of a lap. So, it was James, Rich, Mark and Ron for first through fourth respectively.
