I bought a box of slot stuff and this gem was in with a bunch of junk. I cleaned it, found stacks, driver and windshield and was ready to put together a stock Cuc chassis when I noticed gas caps where the roll-bar should be. My question is does that gas cap detail mean it is a Super Cuc, and should I look for a chrome dome roof and and windshield?

I do not have a Super Cuc so is this the best plan?. Any help and or pics of what the chassis motor and wheel combo is would help a bunch. Somebody, I read recently makes a nice repo of the chrome dome and windshield. Was it Brad Bloom maybe?

It's a Super.   They didn't make regular Cucs in blue.   Brad has had tops and glass at at times.    It's kind of hit and miss with his chrome people doing acceptable  work and getting things done.    He may read this and post in.   He is at Bordeux so won't be back in the US for a week or so.   I'm sure he'll respond by then.

They had regular Cuc front wheels and all I have had had black Cox rear slicks.    Any iso frame will fit, but they may have only come with the frame that had the long guide arm.

Thanks Matt for the input. Those rear slicks you speak, are they on American mags? I think the chassis would have the long drop arm with the reverse guide.?

What makes it a Super. Is it the blue, the motor or the chrome canopy?

To answer your last question, I'm pretty sure, all of the examples you listed.

Brad will check in here probably.   The top is really what made it a Super, but it was also the last series body with the front spoilers, the trailing guide and extended frame.    The black foam tires were on plain wheels like the Cuc rear wheels.    I think all of them I've had were probably tapered hubs.    The American mags  were set screwed in the last version.  I'm not sure they ever set screwed any of the other wheels.

Notice the "trailing guide"?

E.J.'s Hobbies has them.  Probably the only source that does on the planet other than the hit or miss eBay.

Thanks Matt, good input. I bet those wheels are hard to find?

Thanks Jairus, I did notice that. Did the Rachas use that guide with the long drop arm also? Ed is a great guy, would not of thought of him for that part. I am pretty sure I have one? Will check today.

Only the Super Cuks because they had the long arm with two holes.
I bet the wires chafed from rubbing on sharp arm edges.  But never owned one....

Classic Tin Toy has the chrome roof repops. Their site says they have only two left. As with all their cox repop parts (you can build an entire styrene 2E if you've got enough money)...be prepared to pay the price.

Todd is right, their cost for the roof is probably enough to buy a car on Ebay.   Wait till you hear from Brad.    You may wait awhile but you will end up with what you want.   In the meantime, the Super actually came with both windshields so it could be built as an open car, like the orange ones.   build it that way and switch tops whenever you come up with one.

Thanks Matt, yes I can wait, its not like I don't have more projects to do. I did pop the windshield out because it had a chip on the top edge. The next thing is the roll bar. Does that fit under the dome roof?

As I mentioned there are gas caps where the roll bar mounts. I am sure I will have to cut them to save the body from distortion.

Brad will be heading back to the States tomorrow - just said hello and goodbye to him at the hotel in Bordo, after finishing the big vintage meeting Sunday (45 participants in both 1/32 and 1/24). He's very low on stock at the moment, but will soon be gearing up for higher rate resin production!

Here's the repro parts I got from him for my Super Cuc project last year:

The long chassis with the two pickup holes does come up now and then on ebay, but you have to keep looking, they're rarely labeled. I think the Super Cuc mostly came with the Super Nascar motor, but I believe some had a regular Nascar too... that was the case of the one I found at a flea market here some 20 years ago (eventually traded it... then decided I wanted one anyway!).

Thanks for the update Don, Brads parts look great. Worth waiting for. Your car was a good save. Can you tell me dose the roll bar fit under the roof or is that why mine has the gas caps in its place?

I have been working on the chassis. I even found a pair of those set screw rears, now looking for the rear axle with three flats. Not sure about the gearing, 8/32 ? that would be 4 to 1.

Did you take any pics of the slot meeting? Did you buy anything or were you selling ?

I didn't take any pix Martin, but Julien did... if you're on facebook:

https://www.facebook...71303471&type=3

I'm the guy in the yellow T-shirt at the end in one of the races... and also behind the drivers during the trophy giving, because I'm the co-race director... Actually won an 8th place trophy in 1/32! Had lots of car and controller problems in 1/24, as has become usual... burned out 2 controllers, a new record for me, with my Ram-Boochi!

I was mostly selling this time... have way too much stuff already!

If I remember right, the original Cuc was 8-29, not sure about the Super... but seems neither that, nor the slotted axle would be too important... do have some slotted axles, but they're for anglewinders!

All the parts found, cleaned up and ready to assemble.

Was really happy to find the rears and I think this is the correct axle?

I know I have got the foam bits some where just can not seem to find them at the moment.

Got the chassis assembled, I used the nickle plated front wheel spacers as they were on a Cuc chassis. I have also seen the brass tube and two black nylon spacers. Not sure what the super Cuc had for sure? Another nice surprise was the vintage tires feel really soft, good enough to get traction I think.

So lucky to find all the parts in my parts stash. Very satisfying .

If I have something wrong please let me know,
