I hope I am not alone when it comes to saving a broken damaged item form the garbage can. I spend way too much time than makes sense, but there is that feeling of satisfaction of making it better, and there is absolutely no pressure of working on rare or mint items.

So when I bought this car, it was what was left of a Dynamic Mirage. The body was cut so high no motor would fit under it. It also had a really bad arch trim and sides that looked like the Bonnie and Clyde car.

But with all that, the factory blue/back and the shape of the Mirage body said to me, this is worth a go.

My technique is to lay clear tape on the outside of the problem area then trowel epoxy on the tape from the inside. Then it can be sanded polished and painted. You have to work with gravity, so I only do one corner or side at a time. Wish me luck, :)  or tell me I am crazy.

Martin, I don't know if I would have the time or patience to undertake a project like time, so I applaud your efforts. Show us more photos as your work progresses & when it's finished. Are you planning to repaint that body on the outside?

Have you considered making a mold out of the body? Instead of saving just one, it could be reproduced for others to enjoy too. Just a thought........

Bill, I save as much of the original paint as I can. Then paint on the inside and outside as needed. I had to mix dark blue and black to get a match.

Brian, I am not set up to make molds. I have not looked to see if someone makes a repo. I like the idea of "the save" and the fact that this car will have a second life.

I am going to use the Dynamic pans and a 26D motor as is fits perfect behind the cockpit. I am only adding to the body no cutting or removing.

I added the silver on the side pods to give the illusion of the aluminum lowers and the yellow to compliment the main stripe. Its a shame somebody put the big number on the rear deck as now I do not know where the two others numbers go. For now I will just leave it.

Body  is far enough alone where I can work on the chassis.

The body in your last photo looks very clean. Nice job Martin!  I'm sure the completed car will look great too. :)

So here is what I did. I put set screws in from the bottom and the stock screws from the top so the pans are not locked down. This way the pans are free to rotate around the drop arm pivot. Not sure if anybody did that back then, but it bet it will help isolate the body. You can adjust the float plus minus. I have it set at about a Q tip minus the ground clearance for now.

The rear pin tube doubles as a down stop by sticking past that tear drop side float part.

Hard to see in this pic but this body sits so low I shaved the top of the front axle holders. The Mirage stacks sit perfectly on top of the 26D motor. Shes low.

Not done yet, still need to stick some pins in it, but was excited to see it posing for the camera.

I would consider leaving off additional numbers. The car was probably a kid's and he lacked knowledge, but not enthusiasm for racing. It probably did not stop him from enjoying the car.

While doing some research I found this pic below. Two wrongs do not make it right. but I agree this is the way this car was and will stay. I even like the whimsical CRUNCH decals front and rear.

For me also (as a kid)  Dynamic kit cars were a big step to speed.

I have to ask, does anyone out there have a way to take a image of the box art laid flat. I have the clear box but the card is soaked in oily ooze and is ruined. I tried to save it.

P.M. me if there is a possibility of a trade of some kind plus my donation to SB of course.

The LASCM has a NOS complete kit but I guess it wouldn't be a museum piece if everyone had it  :) I've been looking for that same insert for a few years. http://lascm.com/Slo...roducts_id=6628

Thanks Martin.  I imagine a reprint on card stock with a little trimming would work out nicely.  I keep these pictures around to remind me I should have bid higher on a EBay item that came around a few years back thinking there will be another opportunity soon.  Not true.

Thanks to a fellow Slot blogger who sent me a image. I was able to clean it up a bit and make a perfect copy printed on card stock.

It now completes my 3 Dynamic kit cars. Thanks again.

Nice one Martin.

One detail to check: after you put on the tape and layer in the epoxy, do you then remove the tape once the epoxy sets? That's what I assume, but the result seems a lot more solid than I would have thought. And what kind of epoxy do you use? The problem here is that there's many more kinds of instant and crystal (fast-setting clear) epoxies, and it's not that easy to find the standard stuff any more! But I'm sure it's around, just have to check out a few more hardware stores!

Hey Don, its a 2 part 30 minute slow cure epoxy. I buy it for our local Ace hardware. I have seen the same thing at hobby shops also.

Comes in 2 easy to use bottles, equal amounts etc.

Yes, I usually just use packing tape. Once the e-poxy sets I carefully peel of the tape. The e-poxy is really easy to file and sand to 4000, then finish with Novus® Plastic Polish. If you make the repair thin enough you can paint from the inside.
