I can't find any info on this motor. Green can and sticker. Balanced by grinding. Can bushing is really sloppy so it probably has been run a lot. I'm sure Philippe will know. Hopefully he'll see this.

PS: The other motor is approx. 16D size. The can is flat on the magnet sides, making it a rectangular shaped can. Marked made in Japan on the endbell. Never seen one before. Anyone know what it is?

Phil,

To help identify the smaller (16D size) motor, try here: http://slotblog.net/...igarashi-small/

The Russkit 28 had a black endbell with black and white lead wires (as seems to appear your photo), but the motor in your photo is definitely NOT a Russkit 28!  :nea:

Perhaps someone has switched out some parts on that motor (or maybe the colors in the photo are "off"?)... check the Igarashi drawings.  :D

IIRC the top one was used by Strombecker in their 1/32 cars...yep...Igarashi...lots of turns of very fine wire, for use with a home set power pack (6V.?) transformer...

The Champion 702 probably has a bad gimbal bearing...they all get wobbly sooner or later...

Hi Phil,

That 702 is begging for some attention...

I bet you can whip that baby into shape and have a very fine motor.

Steve, here's pics of the motor.

Geary, 36D motors are plentiful and cheap on eBay. This one I'm keeping as-is for my collection.  :)

Gator Bob (Bob Israelite) posted this on the DC-Punk forum. There was also debate on whether it was legit. Bob confirms that it is and posted a pic of the entire Champion 36D lineup:

It started when Champion came up with a 'plan'.

All stock production Mabuchi motors received in cases from Japan were tested and sorted before leaving the Champion factory.
The program was called 1 in 10. Only the top 10% of the tested motors were 'bagged'.

Now... what to do with the other 90%. Many went in to RTR cars but the rest were torn down and rewound or sold as 'bagged replacement parts'.

Here we looking at Champion's first gen rewind called the 702. It's all OEM predecessor the 701 was a stock tested FT-36D offering.

IIRC all 702's were OEM Mabuchi parts except .. brushes, wire, paint, green sticker. .. bumped timing and a fresh zap.

Next up - 1966 was 'The 703'. There never was a 704 ... that I know of ... The 705 is 'The Ultimate' wound with 27 wire.

Seeing how there's little info on Champion 36D motors I'll add search terms to this.

Bob on why the 702 is green while Champion's other 36D models were metallic silver:

IIRC... Hawk imported them green from Mabuchi, Hawk got out very early and Champion jumped in and bought up their green can FT36D motors for the first gen (702) rewind program.

The green ones were actually from Renwal, used in their two revised Classics kits. Hawk only had the 16D model, which was blue. (and Renwal only had the 36D).
