What are "anti-decking" rails?

The anti-decking rails are the two center rails. They are soldered just to the bite bar and simply rest on the nosepiece. They keep the chassis from bogging down in the bank and possible bottoming out (hitting the deck as our British friends would say) and scrubbing speed in the bank. They allow use of a much softer center section. Since they are not connect in anyway at the front, they have zero effect on the twist flex of the chassis and the upward flex, only downward.

I think Tim is referring to the third "log".

The one that goes up over the guide tongue and acts as the downstop.

To give credit where credit is due, I originally saw the idea in the early '70s in another form used by UK racers, probably Barry McGee. .047" and .047-.055" main rails were the choice to get bite' this was of course before the glue wars and cars really dragged in the bank on some tracks, especially late in the race. I built a few cars back then like this and later on when we went from full glue to limited glue used the idea on my steel center section chassis.

Hi Tony,

I had a similar chassis to your tripod for the 1979 US Nats at Buzzarama. It was designed and built in Australia by Mark Fox and we called it the "ice cream cone " chassis. A similar chassis showed up at the 1978 Worlds built by Axel Pomeranz. Very good in light goo conditions on fast tracks but not so good in heavy goo because the front was too light.

Fortunately for me you gave me one of your chassis on the day at Buzzy's and it was so good in the goo... wish I still had it today.

Great to see you're still at the pointy end,

Regards,

Everything new in Retro chassis was new back in the day.
