Not sure if many of these are in circulation, but I found this little gem last night while rummaging through some old R/C stuff I am planning to purge.

Many of the same names are still on the slot scene today, but they were looking a bit younger and in some cases, thinner with more hair. LOL.

Sadly there were a few names that are no longer with us!

The year Martin Gramann won.

What an inspirational figure.

KVP,
Is there anything on the tape of me telling the previous year's champ, Ralph Morella, who I was pitting for, that he was an idiot, for still trying to run metal spurs, in G7?

I forget if the pinions were wearing out the spur, or the spur was wearing out the pinion, but he gave me quite a workout.

LOL, maybe Mike!

I haven't watched it from start to finish so you may very well have made the final cut.

There was a guy interviewed though that pitted for the Semi-pro G7 winner with a spectacular porn mustache. He had a strong resemblance to you, just not as good looking!  :wink2:

Jon Aubin was the Semi-Pro winner.

Him and and his dad, Gil, might be the only slot racers that never yelled at a marshal, no matter how inattentive, they were.

IIRC, Jon was in his first G7 racer, ever.

He ran my car, and along with the win, TQ'ed with a time better than the Pro TQ, the next day.

The best was when a top, top racer, trying to deflect some heat, for cherry picking, and entering an amateur race, brought up me lending Jon a car, as something comparable.

I pointed out, along with obviously not driving the car, the other 2 guys on the Semi-Pro podium was Steve Koepp, a Parma employee, and long time racer, and Robert Pittman, an Australian, Koford sponsored, Pro racer, and at the time, the reigning G7 single lap record holder, who only decided to enter Semi-Pro after running in the G7 warm-up, earlier in the week, and feeling over-matched.

That was the big one and I enjoyed every minute of it.  My racing buddy Tom Norris and I made the race and watching Martin win was icing on the cake.

Like Father, like son. I raced with Gil from before either of us had our driver's licensee. He was always very calm, competitive but calm. Jon was cut from the same mold as his father. It was a pleasure to race with both of  them and I hope my behavior can be as good.

Sure his name wasn't Robert Pittman? Very fast, very nice guy.

Yes, Robert Pittman, and a super nice guy.

It was 23 years ago.

I think I had Charles Rickard, an Australian Koford customer, on my mind.

I corrected it.

Funny you should mention Charles Rickards, he got me racing slot cars probably 45 years ago. He has always looked after me as mentor, competitor, team mate, track owner and distributor.  :)
