The BZ beater gets a stable mate.

Always wanted one in better condition than the beater and this body was pretty good.

Fixed the small splits that seem common added the pipes and driver. Cleaned and tumbled the chassis grooved the O-ring front tires as before and put in a NOS BZ motor with 10 /31, and she is done.

How that big motor fits in there, I don't know. But I love it  :D

Yep it is a good fit (as in no extra room) I did have to trim the driver a few times to get him high enough to clear the motor and move the wires to a happy place.

Pablo, these are those O-rings you sent me. They fit the stock BZ wheels even better, thanks again.

Love the old mid 60s Indy cars too. I think BZ/Lancer made a nice looking car.

Martin, send me your DNA. I have a gizmo that can take you back to 1969 then return.

Please build me a bunch of cars, buy everything off the shelves, then come back to us here in 2020  :D

Now that's what you call a "big block" motor!

That is real nice Martin!

Thanks for sharing.

That turned out nice.    The 36D is a stuffed fit in that body.  It takes a special vac form driver  to even fit one in.      I've always wondered why they didn't order a few thousand 16D and design the frame for the 16D.  I guess these cars came out late and design and tooling money for new stuff was getting tighter.   I do like these cars and the great single stage paint that has a candy look.

It would be nice to be able to get replica decals.

Another nice job Martin.   You're getting faster!!!    It's time for you to add some new collection pictures to that thread.

Matt, you mention the driver which is the only driver that make fitting that 36D in possible. I did manage to match the blue in some ares as the paint very often pops of in spots. Then I gave it a flat clear coat to hold it all together.

Somebody back in the day really gave these RTRs some thought when it came to body color.

By the way I could not find a pic of another BZ Watson Ford in this color.

Repo decals would be great to have, I was lucky these bodies decals were intact.

I have one that is a pretty close match to the lighter blue.   I know Don Wedding has one that is a bit darker and his is MIB.

This is Don's.   Very nice isn't it?

It did not come easy, but with help from a friend, long story. But I finally scored a better BZ beater to replace the body I started with. This one had some issues as well, but it looked like an easy fix.

Main issue was a chunk missing from the nose. I used silicone putty to make a quick mold from the good body. It is not perfect and I still need to back the patch up with gold to try and get a better color match.  Because it is repaired with clear epoxy and the epoxy is thicker, it is hard to get a perfect color match, but it is so much better than the first body that I started with.

Thanks guys,

I do love the 60s open wheel cars, especially Indy cars. I think BZ captured the essence of this colorful period in racing.

While we are on the subject of Watson Fords Lancer did some really nice pre-painted bodies. Shown here.

I am not sure if this is all the colors, they may have done a yellow too?

That red would have made an eye catching rtr back in the 60's.

Thanks to Pablo I got the fronts on, and this beater is rolling again. Still looking for a broken body I can patch the missing parts in with but for now its a cut-away.

I did figure out how to tread the fronts, I did mess up on the first one, Where do you get those fat o-rings ? I will have to get some more. Rt front side good, the left I messed up a bit.

I hope this does not sound too ridiculous but I got a box of  'O' rings from a hardware store and they were in sizes that could be use I think on a slotcar.

Hope this helps Allan

Thanks Alan, just rereading this from almost a year ago.

This is what Dom offers on e-bay. Not the Lancer version as advertised, but it is the Jad/Riggen with the pipes molded in.

Better than nothing, but nowhere near the detail they were getting in the good old days..

What open wheel cars are on your to do list?
