Fellas,

As can be seen on the Slot Car History Forum here on Slotblog, I suggest that the C.A.R.S. Vintage Slot Car Club grant "vintage slot car" status to the Flexi-1 chassis AND slot car bodies for that chassis from the era...

Thank you, Pete, or recognition of the Flexi-1.

I’ve been searching for the #583-A Narrow Sprint Pan for the Flexi-1 main chassis and I’ve been quite successful. It’s a necessity for mounting vintage 1/24-1-/model car bodies. I had two guys here on Slotblog chime in and it’s gotten me four of them... and, another gentleman in California I found has six. They are hard to come by as I found out Parma only made them for three years or so. The wider #588 is easy to come by but, it’s too hard to modify.

An eBay search of 'Built Model Car,' will bring in daily new listings of some cool stuff... some 30, 40, even 50 year old builds. Stripping the bodies away from the chassis leaves you with a collection of leftovers that I re-cycle back into eBay because modelers gobble up all that chassis stuff.

I’ll try to be not so lazy today and include some pictures today. Too hot outside anyway...

Bear in mind, everything I pictured her are old builds with 10, 20 or 30 year old paint.......They rub out really nice and are fun to decal, add a card interior with driver, etc.....All of the chassis are built identical......Mounting tabs are strips of black plastic anti-freeze or oil containers.......in most instances with Mura Group 12's and Parma 16d's.....They run like giant T-Jets....

Steve, great collection of race cars! Aren't those brass chassis extenders as hard to find today as the narrow Parma pans? Or are you making the extenders yourself? I like your use of the black plastic mounting tabs. Thanks for showing us the cars you are building. :)

Thanks Bill.....Those brass chassis extenders were from Ferret Engineering......I’ve actually found a couple here & there but, they are easy to make if you wanted to.......The press -metal Parma ones are plentiful from Roger at Mid-America........I just keep making the bodies as I find good reasonable buys.....We are all modelers and tinkerers and I guess we just don’t stop.....I have 25 of these things.....I’ll post more pictures just for fun.......They are fast and you need to milk them if you want to turn good times and stay on the track.......The tires are 4 1/8 x 7/8 and mostly 34 tooth cobra gears.....Pete has run them and donated the orange #20 Ford pictured.......Simple and fun...plus, they look like real cars..........Great Weekend Bill!....Steve

I might have to build one of these cars just for kicks.  I've got a body, motors, & a Flexi-1 centersection. I'd have to make a chassis extender & a set of pans. The 4" Flexi 2 centersection, though heavier, ought to work too. I have F-2 parts left from my kids racing them in the late '90s. :)

Do you have a chassis photo from the top without the body?

They look terrific but, IMO, would be even nicer with big tires.

Thanks Mike......Yea, I thought about putting 1 inch tires on them.......Not really sure how the 1/8 x 7/8 tires endured....They come back to life as new with the “Wintergreen” cleaning...........But, Some of these cars I made when I was 32 or so.....at 57, I still keep churning them out here and there..........I just find them fun and relaxing.....I guess like fishing, kite flying, or playing with real cars.......The thrill of the hunt for bodies and parts!......

And, the old paint on these cars polishes right up with some Novus #2 and an old piece of T-Shirt........Harley dealers carry it in different #’s but, 2 is the best for cleaning clear windows and even polishing molded color styrene....
