On October 11, 2018, Electron Raceway hosted an event for OSCAR Trans-Am cars. The format was one minute qualifying for lane choice; three times through with two minute heats. The track was cleaned and sprayed prior to the event and conditions were excellent. Six slot heads showed up for the event including Mark, who came up from Grants Pass. All six ran Firebird T/As.
Qualifying started about 7:00 P.M. James took the TQ honors running a blistering 4.758 seconds. Rich was just a whisker slower. Ron won Concours but it was a tough choice with so many great looking Firebirds.
The tone was set quite early. James won the first heat after Rich and Bob tangled in the Fishhook corner. As the evening wore on, James continued to extend his lead winning the race with 284.5 laps.
The battle for second place was between Bob and Rich, who, throughout the race were within a half lap of each other and in many cases just a few sections apart. Late in the race, Rich attempted to pass Joe in the Keyhole corner. Wheels touched and both cars de-slotted. This gave Bob nearly a lap lead. A bit later, Bob made an unforced error and Rich was back in the hunt with only a half lap deficit. Bob was first of the two to complete his rotation finishing with 275.7 laps. Rich rotated in on red for his final heat and needed 23.5 laps to overtake Bob, a tall order but doable. In the end Rich fell short and finished third with 275.4 laps, just three sections behind second place Bob.
Ron and Mark fought it out for fourth place. After the first complete rotation, Ron was ahead by less than a lap. The tables turned and at the end of the second rotation, Mark led Ron by less than a lap. Mark managed to extend his lead over Ron in the third rotation. In the end it was Mark fourth with 259.1 laps and Ron in fifth (First in B-Main) with 257.0. Joe brought up the rear but was only three laps down from Ron.

Hey, Rich. Thanks you for hosting another great race. Such a shame that the out-of-towners could not have attended to make it a bigger event.
Still it was a great evening of racing on your fun, fast track, which was in excellent condition. The cars handled great, the power was consistent, the racing was clean and friendly, the snacks were superb, and the trophies were unique and well appreciated. Kudos to you, our host.

Thanks,
I too was disappointed that there was no out of town participation. I initially thought we might get some of the guys from Cottage Grove and/or Eugene to participate. With six racers, all regulars at Electron, the race was relatively clean - upping the lap count and fun factor. Alas, it is adios to OSCAR races at Electron. I will concentrate on the true scale cars. The next few races will be the typical Triathlon format. I plan to start a Winter Series right after the first of the year. This will give us time to get our True Scale rides in top form
