I believe the 10 degree slant was intended to drive the guide into the slot. 

 

Who knows for sure if it works. May even create more drag.

 

Remember that everyone was looking for a new gimmick at that time to increase sales.

Yep, that was the theory Joe, but it's kind of useless, since if you mount it in a normal flag carrier it would be undrivable; you have to bend the drop arm or whatever holds the guide so it sits flat... 

 

You find a lot of these guides on scratchbuilt cars from 64-65! And Russkit probably did them in 5 or 6 different versions, regular and mini, 1/8" and 3/16" post, etc.
