Found a Cox 2E almost complete car but I need a few pieces and the motor (16-D, can end drive, chrome, square hole) I think the part# is X-150.  I would have thought these would be a dime a dozen but I have looked for a month and have only see 2, both NIP and pricey.  Don't need NOS but one in good condition that won't break the piggy bank.  Anyone have one?  Thanks.....

Hey Don,

The 2E ISO should have a 16D NASCAR, with rounded endbell and oval hole.  Sorry, even more rare...

All FT16D Mabuchis (*as well as the Hong Kong Cox 16D motors) in clean shape or NOS are rare and stupid-expensive at this point.  I bought ONE Mabuchi FT16D a week or two ago and with shipping paid like $30.  I hated myself for doing it, but I figured I'd put it aside for the one person who doesn't care and must have one.

$30 doesn't seem expensive at all.

Especially with shipping.

Well, considering what I *might* be able to get for it on the other end, the price would make it one heck of an expensive motor for what it is.  I only bought one because buying multiples would quickly make for an expensive buy.  As for the "especially with shipping"...that would be like $5.  :)  Some of this depends on the buyer.  I guess (?) if a person is just looking for an FT16D motor to complete a project, the $30 is OK.

In any case, these things are pretty rare at this point, and almost never come up any more.  The one I bought was "Buy it now", if it had been an auction, it very well could have gone for more.  Mostly, all you see for Mabuchis are 36D's and sometimes the early FT16 motors.  I saw one auction for a Russkit "22" listed as a "23"...so buyer beware.

Just sold a Frankenstein one that was a little butchered for about $40. It was my last one. I must agree these are scarce.

Always look carefully at motor lots and you may find one. Look for the round holes in the can end and the rounded areas on the endbell which are found on this motor. Lastly, as stated, be careful it's not a 36D you are looking at. They can look similar at first glance.

True!  You wouldn't think this might be a problem, but between the camera angle and the sometimes-fuzzy descriptions, you do have to be sure!

My mistake.  I was under the impression was that the Cox 3600 was a 36D frame motor.  I've seen several of the 3600's on E-Bay but not sure if they were the 16D variety.  Thanks for the help in pointing in the right direction.....

John, you are too kind sometimes. Believe it or not there are people on Ebay that might intentionally misrepresent an item :laugh2:

It can be that way on occasion.  ^_^

Don, it always drove me crazy that the 16D was called the 3600. Who knows why.

(;))...yeah Joe, I can't count the number of times I've seen Russkit "22" motors listed as "23" motors.  I usually don't bother letting the seller know about his/her "mistake" (wink wink), but then feel guilty in case someone buys one.

One wonders why "22"s are often listed as "23"s but rarely is it the other way around.

One of life's great mysteries  :laugh2:

Doing a quick Google search, yes, the 36D is #3500.

Definitely a bad choice, numbering the 16D, #3600.

But at least the 36D isn't #1600. LOL

Hey, it's not that hard finding these Nascars...

Cox Nascar Super Nascar-2.jpg

More seriously, this is the result of about 20 years of searching, mostly on ebay, including parts that I built up into motors... Not to mention that 4 of the 6 Nascar 3600 motors have a loose can-side bearing. Same thing for the Super Nascars, definitely the hardest ones to find.

Note that Cox made white endbells as well, as least for the 16D size motor, and they have "Cox" on the endbells, just like the black ones.

Okay, I'll let out a little secret...  Look for early 1/32 Riggen RTRs.  Lots have the white endbell version NASCAR.  You're welcome!

Edit:  Just remembered that I did find one with a Super NASCAR 16D in it!  They are out there!

Hi Bill....yes...

I wonder how many laps they might last before over heating...my guess is not many...

They have nice magnets in them...might be arco type?
