[I've split this post into its own thread. These comments from PdL were made regarding an eBay auction listing, and the info is too good to allow it to disappear when we purge the eBay subforum.]

The Piranha Mark 1 was only ever sold as a clear body, with a tag stapled on top of the clear plastic as all early International bodies were. The car in the auction does not have the correct chassis for a genuine International RTR car.

The car for sale on eBay is simply a customer-painted body over a standard International chassis, but that chassis is not the same as that used on the genuine RTR cars, as that chassis was never sold separately. This is what the genuine chassis looks like:

Now, Bob Kovacs painted all the bodies of the early International RTR cars. There were only two models, the Tijuana Taxi and the Piranha Mark II. They used proprietary International wheels and tires, some had a Revell motor, some a Classic motor.

Bob Kovacs also painted International bodies, that were used on a standard aftermarket chassis, for trade shows. We have several of these cars, including a Piranha Mark 1. Compare the chassis with the one above:

Here is a Lincoln painted by Kovacs, also sporting the 'right' chassis:

The later RTR cars had a different chassis and a Classic '26D' motor, and Riggen wheels and tires.

Here is another one, also painted by Kovacs, but using the "standard' chassis:

I hope that you like this one too... :)

I was lucky enough to score a Tijuana Taxi body (only) in a parts box buy many years ago. Are chassis available anywhere?

You can adapt the generic, carded International chassis to the Taxi.    Those are around.  The actual correct chassis is really hard to find.   I think  have seen two variations of the correct fitting frame.  The variations are in the cutouts under the motor.   Both have slots cut in that area, but I think I have seen two variations of those slots.   I think those chassis only came under Taxi or Piranha rtr cars.   I doubt they were ever sold as an accessory.   What do you think Philippe?   Were the correct frames (also about 1/4 inch wider) ever sold by themselves?

Matt, see post # 1. There is only one type of the correct chassis, and that was as far as I know, never sold separately but the body mount was.
The only way for Glenn is to do as you suggest, get a "standard" chassis.

Philippe, I thought I'd seen 2 variations of the wider frames.  I thought there was a difference in the location and type of openings cut under the motor box.    I may be wrong.   I will have to go thru my pictures of those cars and see what I can find.   Sometimes my memories are not 100% correct!!!

I traded away a yellow International Piranha RTR mint in the clear dome stapled box, back in the '90s to a fairly well known collector in Michigan.  I only collected HO at the time so didn't mind trading it away, plus I got it from a Toy Shop ad at low cost from a want ad I was running at the time.  From what TSR stated, it must have been the Mark 2.

Yes, the Mk1 was never sold as a RTR model. The one shown in this thread was a display model for International to use in trade shows.
