[I've split this post into its own thread. These comments from PdL were made regarding an eBay auction listing, and the info is too good to allow it to disappear when we purge the eBay subforum.]
The Piranha Mark 1 was only ever sold as a clear body, with a tag stapled on top of the clear plastic as all early International bodies were. The car in the auction does not have the correct chassis for a genuine International RTR car.
The car for sale on eBay is simply a customer-painted body over a standard International chassis, but that chassis is not the same as that used on the genuine RTR cars, as that chassis was never sold separately. This is what the genuine chassis looks like:
Now, Bob Kovacs painted all the bodies of the early International RTR cars. There were only two models, the Tijuana Taxi and the Piranha Mark II. They used proprietary International wheels and tires, some had a Revell motor, some a Classic motor.
Bob Kovacs also painted International bodies, that were used on a standard aftermarket chassis, for trade shows. We have several of these cars, including a Piranha Mark 1. Compare the chassis with the one above:
Here is a Lincoln painted by Kovacs, also sporting the 'right' chassis:
The later RTR cars had a different chassis and a Classic '26D' motor, and Riggen wheels and tires.
