I'm looking to find the bike I had as a kid. It would be a Schwinn Stingray, not a Deluxe model. The color was Campus Green. Not my favorite choice but that's what I had. I bought it used-was only a couple months old for $40. The years that would match mine would be between 1970 and 1972. Asking for a lot I know.

I would accept other colors but it has to be within the years listed.

I would accept a less than perfect example. Does anyone know where I may begin to look for such an item like a specific collector site etc.?

Check this out. The exact bike I had is listed under 1970. it's the Green one.

I unfortunately had a Sears 3 speed sting ray type bike, because that's what I ask for for Christmas. But the Schwinns were the @#$% ! I hope you find one!

Joe, have you already checked eBay? They list a lot of bikes & Schwinn parts. I think Dave Larsen, who used to post here as Vitter, had a collection of Schwinn bikes.I don't know how you would contact him today.

Phil, I only got one new bike ever and it was a "faux" Kent Stingray from E.J. Korvettes  :dash2: It was a real turd.

The Stingray I bought with my own money from mowing lawns etc.

Bill, I have checked Ebay but believe it or not there are not any of these 70/72 non deluxe models that I've seen so far. Lots of ones from 65 to 69 or after 72.

You can find Deluxes, Fastbacks etc. Many of the Fastbacks are campus green but not too many basic Stingrays in green at all.

UPDATE

Actually, I just checked and one came on for $375. I'm going to take a closer look. It has fenders which would have to come off.

Wow, does this bring back memories!  I had a Red 1964 Schwinn Sting Ray and it was AWESOME!!!  Here's the thing though, for Christmas that year my Dad bought me a brand new heavyweight Schwinn that had every piece of chrome on it that they offered.  That bike must have weighted 50 pounds and my Dad thought it was the greatest bike ever.  Thing is that is what he wanted when he was a kid and in '64 it was NOT cool.  I think I only rode the behemoth a few times and after that I just kept badgering him until he finally gave in and traded it in on the Sting Ray.  I think it nearly killed him to trade in the big "beauty" on a weird little stripped down bike like the Sting Ray.  I rode the wheels off of the Sting Ray and remember riding about 5 miles each way to our local slot car raceway (Aloma Model Raceway in Winter Park, FL) holding my Plano tackle box in one hand and the handle bars in the other.  Good Times!!!

While Ebay seems like the obvious avenue to take, Brian Cochrane might be able to offer some insight.

He shows off his Schwinn bike collection, on FB.

Those were the two big status symbols growing up.

A Schwinn bike in your garage, and a Zenith color TV in your living room or "parlor".

who remembers the amazing feeling when their fathers were putting together their new bike, yeah I wanted the schwinn stingray 5 speed candy aple red apple krate or the tour de france 10 speed, bit I got I keep thinking it was a raleigh 3 speed, but I believe it was a dunelt 3 speed,I was still memerized over my single speed bike,ah the memories.

by the way i even found a revell type model for the schwinn stingray in that green you are looking for,so settled for the model to reminisce instead recently, once i realized how difficult and expensive it was to have the 1/1 version.

Lone Wolf, if I am not mistaken, you are looking for a Campus Green bike, not the Lime color. eBay is your best shot, also check out CABE.

No, Bruce. Just the basic Stingray as shown in the 1970 catalog.

Mark, yes Campus Green. As I said, probably my least favorite Schwinn color but that's what I had.

Thanks for the info on that site.

Now I have something else to fixate on  :laugh2:

Joe,

Cool bike you had, those Crates are crazy collectable like slot cars. Lease desiriable color goes for most today "grey / the grey Ghost"

I have a Schwinn spitfire would trade for HO slots if anyone wants.
