Hi guys! This is my first post on this forum.

When I first got hooked on slot cars (circa 1967) my mother bought me a RTR Cuc. I still have it. Like most kids I butchered it, wheel openings, opened up body at stacks, etc. Have you guys seen any respectable cover-ups to hide my hacks? Over the years I have acquired another 10 more Cucs. Where can I find info to get these cars as close to original as I can get? Brass spacer length at front, rear, and I need info on how to identify 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen chassis and body differences.

Thanks,

John!

All the information in the world can be found right here on Slotblog, John.

Type in "Cucaracha" in the search feature, then click on the green colored button.

Scroll down a ways until you get past the garbage ads and see actual Slotblog links.

...and there you go.....

John,

Best to show the Cuc body in question.

Click "More Reply Options" and then use the "Choose File" feature to add photos from your PC.

After each photo selected click "Attach File".

Gene Adams makes a clever "cover" for Cuc's that have the motor portion of the body cut out to accommodate the 26D.

Look under "Thingies" section for GenesWorld and send him a PM.

Welcome the thr wonderful world of Slotblog!

Maximo

I agree with Maximo, check with Gene Adams for the solution to fixing hacked-up cuch bodies.  He has one of the best solutions I've seen to date.

Chassis ID for the Cuc's.   I might be wrong on some of it, but as far as I know,

first cuc chassis had no upturned sides with screw holes for mounting a body.  It was flat and only had slots the body snapped into

second design had the upturned sides with screw holes

third design had the front motor mount with a complete hole in it, not the half hole of the 2  earlier designs   this was the 2E design

4th design had the extended drop arm with two sets of holes

5th design was carded for the 26D motor and was usually  black

I don't know the details of ball bearings, roller bears or ball bearing front wheels.

First issue body was translucent orange

second issue was solid orange

third issue had front spoilers same as the supercuc but was orange   all Supers had the extended drop arm, I think

all other colors were just available as loose bodies

I might be wrong on some of this, other guys can add corrections as needed

This pic below shows three combinations of front wheel set ups that I found while putting my Super Cuc together. I have changed what I had on that car to the needle bearing fronts with the brass tube and the black nylon spacers. That's on the left and believe that is the last combination used.

Next (in the middle) Is what I think is first generation, ball bearing wheels all brass spacers.

On the right is what I believe is the really early fist generation when Cox spent the extra on nickle plating the spacers and the same ball bearing fronts. Just my gut on that one.

Please take a look at what you have and share, see if we can confirm these findings.

I've tried the self stick Cuc decals. The ink scratches real easily! I like to rub edges down with paper towel and finger nail and ink came right off. J.C.

Have you tried coating those stickers with a clear before applying them? It might help keep the ink more stable.

Just a thought, what about packaging tape or the clear parts of slot car sticker sheet applied OVER the printed stickers in question ?  I'm in the process of attempting the same process in a few weeks.
