Can-Am on the Aristocrat – 10/23/18

 

October has been a busy month for the Can-Am class on the Aristocrat as MVH retro-racers took to the dual-crossover raceway for the second time in three weeks. The field was a bit thin with only 6 cars heading to tech which required the race be run in 3/3 rotation, racing 12 heats with only three corner marshals.

The closest racing of the first half was between Dan Savage and Richard Payne with both racers tied for 3^rd and posting 130 laps at the changeover to the inside lanes. At 139 laps, Woody Hazelwood held a 3-lap lead over Dave Panich who was another 6 laps up on the 3^rd-place tie. With 121 laps Dick Griffin was leading Wayne Secore by 3 in the race for 5^th place.

 

Dan picked up his pace in the second half, adding a race-best 14 laps to his first half total and claiming the bottom podium step by 4 laps over Richard. Dave fell off the pace but a salvaged 2^nd place finish, 10 laps down to Woody but only 4 laps ahead on Dan. Richard finished with a comfortable 26 lap lead over 5^th place finisher Dick while Wayne closed out the field.

 

Woody’s new Dominator “Jackal-Pro” took fast lap honors with a 4.543 time on purple while Dan ended up 1/10^th back with a 4.641, also on purple. Richard and Dave both posted identical 4.818 best laps on black.
