I have been out of the hobby for 15 years now. Use to race Thursdays and Sundays at The Slot Shop inElyriaa. Kicking around the idea of getting back into it so I am looking for a local track on the east side of Cleveland....

Anything out there other than the four in the raceway list?

Make a quick trip to Mark's Model World in Canton. He has a really well-rounded program with something for every racer, and he is a great guy!

I was planning on going to Mark's Model World.

I also want to stop at Haven Raceway (old Slot Shop). If I understand correctly, the track from The Slot Shop is now at Speedway Slots?? If so, that is a must go-to.

Problem is they are all a hour+ drive... I was really hoping there was something a bit closer to home.

If you used to race at The Slot Shop, then you'll be happy to know that the building currently features my shop, Haven Raceway & Hobby and we race on Wednesdays and Sundays.

As for The Slot Shop's original American orange, it's actually currently in storage to be restored by David Reed in Newark, OH.

Hi Justin,

I thought I read that the track got restored and it was up and running...

Hey, do you know if the old owner of The Slot Shop, Shuck, is still around?

Chuck was never the owner of The Slot Shop. He rented the business from Donna Hubbell for a few years.

The orange was bought by Larry Harper and Larry made some modifications at his place, Speedway Slots & Hobbies (now closed). David Reed is working to put the track back to 100% of its original configuration.

I did not know that... I thought he purchased it from her. 100% original? Bumps are coming back in the front straight again.

Well, I guess I am not headed out to Speedway Slots if they are closed.

Back to the original grade and lane spacing. When the track was in Larry Harper's care he re-decked it but he also changed the lane spacing which made for some oddities in the donut as well as he moved the drivers' stations around.

Hope to see you out at Haven, Tony. I think you'll like our Hillclimb.

I love this Hillclimb. I was designing a six-lane one with 4" lane spacing a lot like this one for myself. I want to put another little jog in the lower straightaway and all flat turns just to make it more of a drivers track.

Tony, the original Orange is up and running at HMS in Bellevue, OH. Unfortunately for you, probably an additional 50 minuts further west. They also have an Aristocrat and King tracks.
