I don't play in the HO world much, but the following has to be one of the best, if not the best, detailed building instructions for an HO car anywhere.

Much thanks to long-term (over ten years!) Slotblog member John Reimels for cheerfully providing his original document so this thread could be created. As might be inferred from this info, John has become a very successful HO gravity racer in recent years.

A downloadable PDF of this tome will be found at the bottom of the page.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Before his HO days, John was instrumental in starting the Retro racing at Manchester, NH, Modelville Hobby, and I think the NERR, too. Prior to Retro, John and his son, John Jr., were very accomplished flexi racers. That's where I first met him in the '90s.

Nice, Bill. :) I started with H. as a teenage and today still love it. It has and always will have a place in my heart.

I'm always amazed how it's spread into many different chassis and motors. People love to experiment and be creative. Freedom and fun are two things I enjoy about HO and always will.

I wonder if there's a performance comparison of all three types of configurations?

I've tried HO twice but couldn't get interested enough to race them. Today, I doubt I have the finger dexterity to work in them. Several guys I used to run open class wing cars with went directly to HO and are still pleased with them.

John Reimels and his son also raced a mini-coupe, powered by a motorcycle engine, throughout the Northeast. I don't know if they still run it or not.

John's builds for 1/24 and HO have always been meticulous. Plus John and his son are simply just great guys to hang out with.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

How do they work without double-stick tape on the track?

Thanks, John, for doing this PDF and broadcasting it from the Slotblog. The Gravity/BRASCAR HO racers are my favorite and this is a well-written guide on how to make them with the new small motors.

What I appreciate most is the parts list and suppliers - essential and saves a lot of time for those of us who might want to try this again.

I enjoyed my time in the Boston area some years ago - a great bunch of HO racers who made me feel very welcome to join in while there.

I understand that the Gravity class is becoming popular here in CO now that Mike Stewart has brought the HOPRA influence here.

Keep it in the slot,

AJ

Sorry about the nerf. "Sorry? Sorry? There's no apologizing in slot car racing!"

Besides, where would I even begin?   I should probably start with my wife ...

"I don't often get very many "fast laps" but I very often get many laps quickly."

The only thing I know about slot cars is if I had a good time when I leave the building! I can count the times I didn't on one two three hands!
