Hi folks,

I want to build a slot car from a 1:24 model of a 2J. Are model kits available? It has to be hardbody, preferably styrene as the resin bodies I've seen are too heavy. Any leads?

Thanks,

Steve C

The only 1/24 version I know of is from www.ditech-produktion.de

It is resin, and not a very good cast quality, but with a litle bit of work it can look very nice.It suposedly weighs 35 grams.

That would do it, except if "Breite" means width then it's 88mm wide!

Any others out there?

With some of the motors they use in the small RC helicopters you could have working fans. :)

Well if you can't find what you want, make your own. The 2J body is easy to build being very boxy in shape. Here is an article I did on building a 1/32nd scale version a couple years ago. Just use the 3 view drawing available on VSRN. Scale it to 1/24th size and get the styrene sheet in the thickness's you need, to get a pretty durable body that is not too heavy.

This one has a lot of time on a track with some hard crashes and has survived well yet. A few well placed inner (gussets) braces provide good stability. It was blast to make but did take a bit of time to wait while some glue seams hardened up well. The panels on the sides are aluminum stick on sheet from a model airplane store. Decals can be found if you look around a bit.

Mine was made of basically .040 with some .020 for some detail areas. You could use .062 and .032 in 1/24th.

Here is the article.

The 2J is a relatively easy scratchbuild lke Larry sez...but just in case you don't want to do it yourself...Mini-Exotics also has a resin curbside kit.

I give a thumbs up to the Mini-Exotics kits in general.
That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.
