This neat little "Green Machine" made by Riggen was on eBay recently. A brass anglewinder 26D endbell-drive.

Is it a Thingie?

If not, then what is it? It doesn't look like any real vehicle I have ever seen(???).

Inquiring minds need to know!

Yes.

Great looking car. I have not seen this one before.

I base my answer on a unrealistic windshield size and angle. Also rear fender outlets with no inlets. Suspect louvers in front of the windshield facing the wrong way. Which while great to look at has that fantasy feel. IMO.

It looks like it might of been made as a sister car to the Ferrari 512 show car, I'm pretty sure Riggen sold on top of that 26D anglewinder chassis.

Your right, It would make a good pair. I did notice the 12 cylinder motor and the similar windshield.

Now please get your high heeled boots off my show car. :D

Showcars become thingies since they are often one-offs!

Did anyone make this car in 1/24 scale? This would make a good slot car.

Why do these girls keep laying all over my show cars.

Found it in the Auto World 1970 Summer catalog: it's the Riggen 1/24 Spyder RTR.

Seems to have been available in two different versions, both labeled Group 12: one with a Mura Group 12 motor and Riggen anglewinder chassis (brass I assume), and the other with a Group 12 approved 26D motor and a stainless steel chassis with brazed joints (not sure I've ever seen one of these in fact).

Other Riggen cars in these lines were the: Ford Mk4, Porsche 908, Abarth 3L, Porsche 917 PA, Ferrari 612, McLaren MK8...

Anyway, so yes, it's a Thingie/Dream Car/Outlaw.

Don,

Can you scan that AW page and post it here?

Thanks in advance.

Here are the three pages with the three different versions of the Spyder - 3 different chassis, all for Group 12! Still haven't seen that steel chassis that I can remember!

Auto World, Summer 1970 - a 226 page catalog, which may have been the biggest ever!

I'll take the 1967 AW catalog as the best reference for slots from the early period.   I think it may have more slot car products than any other issue of their catalog.   It is a great one to page thru.

Thank you Don! I really appreciate that effort.

Feel free to post more cool slot car stuff from that catalog as the one thread here at slotblog ends with 1967.
