I not sure exactly what the "RM640U" set-up looks like (a photo would sure help) but I have several of the Camen strap cans from the early 2000s. PM if that is what you are looking for.

They came out in '85, with short height, single mags.

Here would be a 1990 version, probably with taller, quad mags.

Mike:

Thanks for the photo but either I've got to get new glasses or that photo is so grainy that it could be any strap set-up.

I'll try to post a few photos of what I've got.

The RM640 came out in 1983. They were not a true strap motor, they were round. Camen's first true strap motor was the Size 5 that came out in 1986, I believe.

This is a RM640 in kit form that I opened just for the picture. They come up for bid on eBay once in a while.

Jay,
Yep, that's what the magazine pics looked like in 1990.lol

The distinct features would be the rear buss bar, with a big hole in it for the shunt wire.

Another thing to look for is the big radius on the inside of the aluminum endbell.

Mike D might have been combining the two names.

The strap setup, IIRC, was called the U-640.

It came out at the '85 Nats, at P.A. Watson's. I'm 100% sure of that.

Mike D is right about the name.

I just looked through my 1986 Camen catalog and there is a RM-640-U motor listed for the Group 7 motors. There is an insert in the catalog listing the Size 5 motors for Group 27 only.

All correct.

The RM-640 was the last iteration of the 'can' motor for Camen, like the PS Hex or the Koford Peanut (IIRC).

It evolved into the 640-U strap for  G7 first, then G27. All single mag motors.

The Size 5 was to fit the 'new' G27 arms that had the com mounted closer to the stack, to cut down on the overall length.

Mike......Aluminum endbell?? in '85??

Yep....'85.. at the Houston Nat's.

The 640-U was never sold with a plastic endbell.

PS - The Koford can motor was the Feather.

Right....

the 640-U endbell hardware had those little crushable teflon spacers for the countersinking screws so nothing would short out. What a pain!

I thought the Feather was the G15 setup (my personal fave!).

Thanks for the additional info guys, the Camen strap cans I have are definitely NOT the semi-can style Mike D. is looking for.

Mike is not looking for a semi-can style of motor.

The 640-U is a true strap, not to he confused with the pic in post #5.

Good info guys.

I would take a semi can and or the strap one tho. Looking to take a little trip back in time.

Also wondering who could build an appropriate chassis

I have no idea if this is what your looking for.

I have owned this for so long I don't even know the name anymore.

An NOS RM 640 U. Strap motor to us plebs.

Also shown is probably the most stock strap I have from that era. In this form its a very early attempt at controlling its prodigious output for 1/32 euro sports.

No, neither is for sale.

If so, definitely interested....

The motor Gene's showing is not a 640-U.

It's a  much wider, ceramic X12, I15,G20 motor.

Hey Mike D.:

I just checked in a few "boxes" and found at least part of my old motors.  I found six Pro Slot ceramic magnet strap cans with a bunch of X-12 arms and would let the whole lot go real cheap.  I had some Camen single mag cobalt (Eurosport) set-ups but haven't found them yet.  Let me know if you are interested in any of these.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for taking the time to look for me, but I think I'm good on the strap can for now, just looking for the can setup like in post #5.

Thanks all for the help!  Try the veal!
