For the 2nd round of 2019 we traveled to the center of the state to visit P1 Raceway in Winter Garden, FL.
All races of the day were to be run on the super quick 135’ hillclimb track.
First up was Can-Am with a healthy 16 car count entry.
Donny Caron won concours winner. Paint by self.
Top qualifier was Danny Zona with a fast 3.772 sec lap.
In a vote amongst the racers it was decided there were to be no move-ups and lap totals between the mains were to be combined for an overall result.
First up was the B main in which Jay Guard set the pace for the rest of the field to follow. He did this for the majority of the heats and would finish first. Close behind and finishing just several laps down was Don Bonnano with a solid drive for second place. Rounding out third place was Ray Lee who just squeaked by Tony P.
Up next in the A main we had rough start when it was noticed after a minute or so there was a lap counting issue on a few lanes resulting in a full system reboot. After the restart we saw Brian Ambrose jump to an early and substantial lead on the field working through the lower lanes first. Danny Zona and Terry Tawney were fast as well and ran second and third up to the halfway point. As the heats wore on Danny closed the gap to Brian and took over the lead in the 6th heat. Around this point Jeff would secure third place after exchanging it back and forth with Aaron Rothstein for a few heats. At the final tone Danny was winner and broke the current lap record by 7 laps! Honorable mention to Brian in second place who also broke the old lap record
Points after 2 rounds.
