Nice chassis, Tony!

Growing up I had a poster of Hendrix. He was playing a white Strat. I assumed that's what he always played. I had a Mustang. A friend of my brother came over with a sunburst Strat. Had to be old because this was around 1967, when I was 12 years old. He said he'd sell it to me for $100, but I had to let him buy it back if wanted to. I was OK with that but he wouldn't let me paint it white, something I had done to my Mustang. That was a deal breaker for me. I didn't want it if couldn't make it like my hero's guitar.

About 3 or 4 years later I got a red 1956 Strat for Christmas. $175 in the local paper classifieds. Probably about the going price at the time. Later I traded it for a 1958 double cutaway Les Paul Special (not one of the cool Les Pauls). Hendrix was dead and my new hero was Duane Almond, a Gibson player. What was the first thing the guy did to the Strat? He painted it white! Red was a custom order color. Today that guitar would be worth an insane amount of money had it not been refinished.
