I got a chance last night to race at Foster's Raceway in Santa Maria!! On a legenday Hasse "Paperclip" track!!

What a fun little track!! A lot like racing on a small version of a King Track - very fun!! They race Thursday nights, open at 5 PM. We ran F1 JK chassis and flexi cars. They also run Can-Am Retro cars as well.

I live up in the Central Coast now, so this will become my 'home track'!! I also plan on racing in Modesto with the NorCal Retro crew!!

Tim, are you in Paso or Templeton? I recall a pretty good diner called Margies that serves "Big Food" that is pretty good.

You can find Foster's Raceway in the club and home raceway section. It's in Santa Maria. We race on Thursdays – flexi's with 16D motors and some Retro Can-Am! Come on down and race!!

I live in the Paso mailing area, but I'm only a mile from Creston!! Beautiful ranch and wine region with plenty of cattle, too!! My closest track Is Foster's in Santa Maria – about 65 miles – and I plan on heading up to Modesto for racing with the NorCal Retro guys!

Thanks for the update on Foster's. There was a rumor that Steve had shut it down. FWIW, the Paperclip is an overlooked and under appreciated track design. I've only raced on one a few times back east and that goes waaaaay back but I think it rivals the Kingleman as one of the better short track designs. Personally, I think the slot car community is a little too fixated on longer (King....etc) tracks when great racing can be had on shorter tracks. Then again.......Maybe I like short tracks 'cuz I can't see my car on long ones.......... :unknw:

Hey, I was that long ago you were racing in the East (denial of time passing).

I think racer's fixation longer tracks is as cars get faster they reduce the "catch a breath" time on the straight, second the frequency of catching and passing other cars (not everyone plays nice), and when the lap times are low there can be less time between the  "Crash" and when you are in it.

Steve is still hanging on.  For the love of slot racing, we have a  track on the Central Coast.  Steve is a 1/1 drag racer and attends events in Bakersfield with his alcohol powered  rods.  When he attends, the track will be closed, but advance notice is always posted.  I have a FB slot car group where I post the current race standings.  Send request to "Wampler's slot car corner".

We've had some good turn out with sons and dad racing in the "run what you brug'  B race.  There's been several times where the B racers showed up and had to join the A group to have enough for an A main.

We run  our 4 class cars:  1, JK indy (spec) cars,   2. Sport coupe, Flexi / Speed FX sealed 16d   3.  Foster's Retro coupes, Turbo flex chassis, Hawk 7 and any retro coupe body.  4.  Retro CanAm, (basic SCRRA rules).  Steve allows all Can Am bodies.  Steve does require all bodies to be Toytech except JK INDY car bodies.  Newcomers get a pass, no prob.

Tim, a friend of ours from Long Beach has a half-*** cousin who lives in a canyon behind Arroyo Grande. She has her own hilltop, the window in her shower looks right on the San Luis Obispo airport.

She is retired but used to collect aboriginal artifacts. her house looks like a museum. It even has 12 foot tall doors. It is a great place.

You should take a day trip down there and drive around the area. Also take a drive to the Wild Horse winery.
