In 1967 my friend, mentor, teammate and first driver won important races and also a championship that was played with races on both commercial tracks in Palermo. His name was Mario Mirabella(RIP) and he is among the people I most regret not only for what concerns the slot racing. The car that then I developed and modified for him was a mini A produced by the Mini Dream. Recently I built a car for remember those challenging times. I will share some pictures ASAP. This one is a leaflet that Mini Dream distributed to advertise itself.

That one was produced by Mini Dream, very similar to the Cox guide.

Of the two commercial tracks present in Palermo in those years, one was called "Le Mans" and the other "Targa Florio". The latter was a track that had a design between the "Emperor" and the "Aristocraft", but without crossovers (there were straights in place), so a very fast and very difficult track due to the very high banks.
So I thought of extending the wheel base of the Mini A. Here to follow some pics of how these additional pieces were made using dremels and files ..

At that time I wound a 26D arm with as many turns as possible with the aim of having a powerful enough motor that could handle a 10 or 11 pinion with 26 or 28 crown gear. This allowed you to always have maximum speed on a track that had only one tight turn and where the brake didn't really matter. I'm not sure if it was like or one of these.

For the current car I will use this from the excellent master craftsman John Havlicek. A motor, extremely dangerous, that with its 27t / # 26 will pull a 7/28 gear ratio, I think "right" for a track like the Thomieu completely flat

Very nice work - I love these Mini Dream cars! When I first saw them on the AMF Royal black track in Bordeaux, they seemed as fast as a good flexi...

I saved the originals and mounted modern axle and wheels. I used Parma crown gear and guide dyed as Pablo taught me.

Update: positive track test on the beautiful six-lane flat track allocated in the Calogero Di Mino private warehouse. I had to lock the swinging motor bracket (AKA "snodo Pizzi") and I'm thinking of reducing the pinion gear by one tooth. The car ran on a par with my friend Dario Gueci's Mini Dream Car can-am. Dario, incidentally, is one of the most sophisticated vintage slot cars collectors in Italy and regularly participates in vintage competitions held on the Thomieu track of Roncole Verdi.
