Hi,

Just picked up this car here in France, for a very reasonable price - the guy didn't show the chassis, but I saw the Dynamic front tire, and figured it might be vintage...

Was very pleasantly surprised to receive it yesterday and see the nicely done Lancer Chaparral 2H body and an early anglewinder chassis I couldn't identify. It has a possibly dewound and epoxied, but unbalanced K&B Jaguar 26D motor and Dynamic wheels front and rear.

The chassis looks like it should have floppy pans, but they're soldered to the main section. The drop arm seems to be of steel, but not sure about the main chassis: doesn't seem to be brass, at least not according to the color. Maybe copper, or anodized aluminum, or ?? Anybody ever see one of these chassis?

I asked the seller if he knew anything, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Maybe a knock-off of the AYK made, Champion....or a variation of the "real thing".

Nice score Don.

Not being able to see the chassis before buying it, if I had have bought it, I bet would have been more of a toad...

Good lucky dip.

Got the same chassis in a trade in the mid 70's, pans also soldered on. Resently unsoldered the pans and made a rattle pan setup. Mike Swiss is probably right.

As John S. pointed out on SlotForum, it's very similar to the Champion NC-20 chassis, except for the different material on all of the chassis, except the drop arm, and the extra set of half-moon cutouts on the pans.

Looks like Mike was right - definitely a variation on the Champion NC-20 chassis...

The extra tabs on the center section & pans appear to line up, perhaps they were intended for a floating pintube option.

I don't think there was any question that it came out of the AYK factory.

Very cool with the different material and 4 half circle, bend-ups.

The only question now is when is PDL is going to comment, on how many thousand dollars it's worth to Scott Bader. Lol

looks to me like this chassis was a shaker pan version of the chassis Champion used for the group 20 car.

Yep, that does look likely Eddie & Bill, with just a rod through the holes on the center section and some kind of stopper, you've got a shaker.

But this one is soldered up solid.

Hi Don

Was looking for a part in the shop and found this chassis. No markings, but if I remember it came from California.

The pans are soldered very neatly to the main chassis, appears to have been done at the manufacturer.

regards gene

That's the one Gene! Looks like it has the 26D bracket as well.

Can you tell what the main chassis is made of? It didn't seem like brass to me, but I'm not at all sure...

Don

The chassis is solid brass except for the drop arm which is steel.

Now here's a twist, the motor bracket will only fit up to a 36D endbell.

When your time permits can you post a photo of your 26D motor mount?
