It's hard for people outside the hobby to realize how plentiful Strombecker is and how low on the quality scale it is compared to Monogram and Revell.   If you had it as a kid it's special to you, but as a collectable, the sets are a giveaway item.    At the last local slot show we gave away 3 sets with track only, no cars.   The first guy that asked about a set, we told him $5.   He was un-sure about $5.     I told him I would give him the $5 to buy it.   Her did finally part with $5 and buy the first set.   that was the only set that was sold and not given away.    Luckily we went home with NO Strombecker sets.

While we were  busy trying to give away these sets, Brad Blohm is talking to the guy behind us and finds a nice RTR Cox 2E he bought for  more than a fair price. Typically the HO  guy had it  in a box behind the table.    Typical of me, I was looking the wrong way!!!!    But, BB already had a buyer in mind and made some collector happy with that find.

Same situation as I see at Train Collector Association meets. A lot of money being payed for what was just

plain junk in it's day. It's like the fashion industry. What is currently hot now brings the big bucks. In a month

the stuff ends up at auction for pennies.
