As all the NorCal crew is aware, I have been body testing as time permitted for several weeks. I've reached enough of a conclusion to allow one additional new body (with important spoiler restriction) This body will be allowed for our July race. As a reminder, the criteria was not to find a faster body. Rather, there were a couple of other goals.
- Find an acceptable body that was roughly comparable to what we have been running so as not to obsolete everything else.
- Find a body that would be easily available to mitigate having to order from a non local source and also to provide an alternative should Parma bodies become occasionally difficult to obtain.
- All these bodies performed within 0.05 sec of one another at Motown on a very hot and semi slick day.
Here are the two current TI-22s that are available with a phone call or mouse click from Buena Park Raceway.
- L-BPR-TI22 = Closest to the more recent iterations of a "Kirby" (Say Truescale or O/S 415L)
- R-REE-TI22 = 'Reeder' body which is a "Kirby" with slightly more defined side dams.
- There seems to be zero performance advantage to either. Comparative times were +/- 0.002 (basically identical)
- Both may use 1/2" spoilers for now.
A current fave and one example of several older "classic" bodies that have been largely overlooked.
- L- One example of several "Classic" Can Am bodies. (Champion McLaren #C311) 1/2" spoiler. Surprisingly, this turned fastest time with one test car.
- R- Here is the Lola T-163 (Parma # 1036B) that we have been using with 1/4" spoiler. This one was more stable off the corner than the TI22s
Here's the new addition Legal as of July race.
- JK TI22 #10812B. Legal in .010 thickness only and no spoiler at all.
- Important note: JK 1081B is another version and is not legal at this time.
- With no spoiler this body turned second fastest time with primary test car.
- This body is very long and probably not ideally suited for short w/b chassis (like my test car was)
Test car.....6R .039 102 gr w/body
Minor Tuning update for Stock cars on the Korkscrew. Tested on Thursday last week. A/C was out in the building so conditions were not perfect.
- I tire tuned myself to death with two stock cars without really changing much of the stuff that I wanted to fix.
- Finally, started adding weight in 4 gr increments and immediately started effecting change.
- Both cars eventually got to good race times at about 145-147 gr.
- Do not fear the lead!!!!
