Stock Cars on the Aristocrat – 6/18/19
The MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series Stock Car Class made its annual trek to the American Aristocrat this week with a light field of 6 taking on the crossovers on this non-donut-ed (if that's a word) hillclimb track. Racing was in the 3/4 format with 3 marshals.
Ray Lee, Bob “Woody” Hazelwood, and Dave Panich made up the race for the podium while Rich Girvin, Dan Savage and Richard Payne were in the race for “best of the rest.”
Ray’s consistent driving put him in the lead at the change to the inside lanes with a slightly faster Dave trailing by a half lap. Another lap and a half back Woody was in the podium hunt while enjoying a comfortable four-lap advantage over Rich. Dan was a half lap off Rich's pace and hoping to mount a challenge for 4th place as Richard P closed out the field.
Woody’s car came to life on the inside lanes while Dave struggled on orange and purple. Ray continued with the consistent driving as the podium order was anyone’s guess until the very end. When time ran out Woody was able to take the win by just two track sections over Ray. Dave fell off the pace and had to settle for 3rd, though he did manage to post the fastest lap of the evening. Dan drove well enough in the second half to cruise by Rich G to claim 4th with a 3-lap margin.
Finishing order, laps completed, best-lap time and best-lap lane:
1) Woody Hazelwood 252/5 5.229 BK
2) Ray Lee 252/3 5.319 BL
3) Dave Panich 250/5 5.124 PU
4) Dan Savage 239/5 5.373 PU
5) Rich Girvin 236/6 5.540 PU
6) Richard Payne 231/3 5.525 BK
