Our newest body, from an entirely hand-crafted mold, is now available for purchase. The McKee MK14J Can-Am body is now IRRA® approved.

McKee Announcement.jpg

With loads of downforce it's sure to bring a fight to the Ti22's. The body features great detail, a distinct cut line along with a nice quality even pull you'll enjoy. As always, window masks are included.

Please note this body will only be pulled in .010" Lexan with no exceptions.

Very nice.

This is the body that was on the iconic four wheel drive car driven by Joe Leonard. It had the first turbocharged engine

in Can-Am. I believe it is now owned by Tom Simpson. At that time it was painted white.

Here's a pic of the real McKee MK14, at Road America in 1969, driven by Joe Leonard.

And a couple of the car as it is now.

Question to the rules gurus, regarding spoiler mounting on this body:

Is the 1/2 inch max height to be measured from the lower center section or from the higher ends?

It's allowed a 1/2" from the highest point on the rear. Just like all the other bodies with rear cut-outs.

But remember body height max is 1-3/8 inch then 1/2 inch for the spoiler.

I am not sure where RTR came up with "McKee 14J" as the designation; I am told that the official name was McKee-Olds 14/1 (/1 being the chassis number).

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

I saw Ralph testing one of these last Saturday. I did not drive it or even take a good look at it but it was at least as quick as a Ti22 on the test car.

In my opinion the quality of bodies Ralph is supplying is the best in the hobby today. You can like or dislike the bodies he produces but the quality is first rate.

We have used all the previous RTR releases and they are excellent quality. In my view, RTR are the highest quality, most consistent bodies currently available. The attention to detail and window mask in the RTR product is superb.

I've already got my order in for a couple of these, can't wait to paint (yellow of course) and detail them. I should be able to post some pictures in a few days.  Looks to me like it could give the Ti-22's some serious competition.

Here's a couple of shots of the new RTR McKee Mk14J.  Yellow paint (of course) and it details out real nice.

Thanks for all the kind words and support, guys. The bodies that are already showing up in pictures all look great.

I've seen a lot of talk from people here on Slotblog and Facebook, asking if they can cut out the side vents. Yes, that is legal, however personally I would steer clear of that for following reasons.

I forgot to mention in the original ad that this body has a slightly increased front fender height to reduce body splitting in the top of the front fender, where most other bodies would get thin once the front wheel opening was cut out. A welcoming by-product of increased fender height and angle is, of course, more front end downforce as well. This specific fender height actually routes the air above the deep side vents, which are lower then the fender, essentially making that a dead zone for air flow. For the heck of it, we tried the body with and without side vents there. It worked the exact same in all three configurations tested. We tested the body on many tracks, from the fastest Gerding King in the country to Hillclimbs.

If you want to play with reducing drag/downforce the more effective option is trimming out the "drop-down" spoiler in the center of the body between the two rear fenders, say 1/32" at a time. Be aware though, when you do this it may take some of the downforce and handling away from the car/body but it should increase straightway speed.

Here's a tip that I learned (the hard way) about cutting out the rear of the new McKee...

Add your spoiler before you do the final cutout(s) at the rear. You can make an initial cut out very low all the way across below the middle-rear deck to help with body mounting, but wait to mount the spoiler before cutting any higher. Once the spoiler is in place go ahead and remove as much "excess" material as you like.

Congrats to Gary Clinton Jr on his Can-Am win using the RTR McKee, and to Dan Ebert for finishing 2nd in his main and making the move up with one also!
