The lace is decal that came with the kit. Couldn't resist using it. The style was so popular in the late '60s. Actually

did a couple of real cars with it back then, including my '63 Plymouth Sport Fury. I have pictures of it somewhere.

Cleaned off the varnish from the original stack coating.

Loctited the comm at 20 degrees CCW.

Epoxy powder coated the bottom of the uncoated stack and tail spacer to blend in with the original stack coating.

Ready to put some wire on this little devil...

Arm is brazed, tied and epoxied.

Instead of max turns of 24 went for min turns of 25.

The wind is a 95 and comes in at 61 milliohms.

Needs to go out for grind and balance.

Thanks John,

Thought it might have a softer bottom end with more revs on the top end.

There will be revs for sure Geary.  These relatively high-mass armatures are tough to figure.  They "want" to keep spinning because of all that rotating mass inertia, and tend to be softer on the low end because of that as well.  Then you try and figure what effect running them at elevated voltages will have, not to mention com timing advance and they still always seem to run softer than what you'd expect...I think.

Wicked 290 loctite into the magnet pole lams on a 65C hotplate after everything was aligned and spaced.

Resultant hole is .780" and the arm OD is being ground to .750", giving the desired 15mil air gap.

Now no more fighting with the pole lams during assembly or later down the road...

Nice one Geary!

I feel your pain.  The laminations are like a deck of cards that have been lubed with silicone.  I found pretty early on in my padlock build that SOMETHING had to be done about this as well.  :)  Build-on!

Arm is back from grind-balance.

Time to put this thing together and see what we get...

Finished motor absolutely wailed on a couple of quick blips to 12V.

For a 3/4" OD arm this motor spins up in a real hurry.

Runs surprisingly cool.

The 20 degrees of advance and 15 mil air gap seems to work.

Thanks Paul,

I was a tad surprised at the racket this thing makes with just 12 volts. At 16 volts in a dragster it might be fun.

This motor could be used in a rail if the plastic end pieces were removed and the proper shims used to retain spacing when the rails are installed.

Very nice work Mr Crevie! I am revamping some 60's chassis to be drag race bracket cars. Will post pictures when final design is achieved. Thanks for the inspiration!
