Interest in restarting Illinois Retro Racing League?

Nothing definite in the works yet, but would any of you racers out there have an interest in getting the IRRL going again this winter?
Thinking along the lines of what we had going previously, a few races at the Chicago tracks and a few across the border at the Indiana and Pro-Slot tracks.
Not sure what interest there is, but I'd be willing to work something up if enough of you cared to give it another go! Drop me a PM if you had any similar thoughts on the idea.

I would be willing to volunteer some time to a revitalized IRRL organization.
Problem is my schedule is somewhat variable so I can't commit to being at every race. Not sure how much help that really is.

While IL/IN/MI is most convenient for the Chi-town racers, Our racing buddies in forgotonia (Western IL/Iowa) and Wisconsin always seem to be left out or have to travel the most distances. The Interstate Highways ARE paved and used by several people (Jeff & PJ) to name a couple.
JK 9R type motors only, no PS 400xxx

Howie, you are one of the most REGULAR Wisconsin racers to show up. Wish that could be said for others of the Wisconsin crowd. Even Paul does make it on occasion from 3-4 hours away.
All states are always welcome to attend and some from Colorado and Ohio have been known to be around.

Larry, you can count on less than one hand the Retro racers from Wisconsin... They race scale and wing cars up North... Ever see a Retro race at Lucky Bob's??

The reason I do this is because we are already running CanAm in the local area, yes we are using the PS FK motor, but it is a nominal expense to change between the Retro Hawk and the FK. We run at MidAmerica Naperville, Chicagoland, Thazer, ProSlot, MidAmerica Bloomington, and Logan Raceway in Belvidere. We seldomly see any other racer other than a few local racers at that track we are at, and then the 5 or 6 that travel with the series. If all it would take is a motor change for that group to start showing up again - say something - that is easy to accomplish. At present time we run 4 classes, including CanAm, but we could either go to 5 or get rid of one and go with F1. Let's all work together instead of making another series and trying to occupy another weekend, which is already in short supply. In the month of September I have to travel to South Bend for two nights, Chicagoland for four nights, and then to Belvidere for a night. Figure $100/night for hotel and you are looking at $700 just in hotel costs alone.
I also compliment Larry Kelly for his comment about the track down here and yes it would be nice for people to come down here, but when it comes to slot car racing it is only a one way street - everyone wants to us to come up there and race, but no one wants to come down here. I will say a big "THANKS" to JP, Ron, Rick, and few other racers (sorry I forgot who you all where) that have come here from the Chicago or South Bend area, but the majority of you will NEVER travel down here for one of the fastest grandstand's in the country.
Let me know what you think because right now we are working on tracks/dates and rules for next year and it wouldn't be that hard to incorporate something new.

Maybe my original post could have been more inclusive. SMH
The intent of the post was an attempt to gage any interest in resurrecting a retro only series similar to the IRRL series that was run a few years back. I made no mention of motors or rules affiliation. Certainly any raceway within a reasonable drive from the center of MY universe would be considered as a host if they brought racers into the series. Sorry if that offends, but I'm not interested in promoting and administering something that requires multiple days and long distances to attend. If traveling is your thing, we would be glad to have you.
As a fan of slot racing and retro, before I wasn't able to any longer, I wanted to give the series another shot. If it doesn't happen, so be it!

Jeff, we love and appreciate very much when Sue makes the trip out east to attend our races, even if she brings you along.
This is nothing more than to see if this old dog (retro) has any life left in it. Those that want to see it come back will determine if and where we race.
Personally, a drive out to your area could work for me if the classes were something I could support. I only have so many race days in me a month, so picking and choosing is the necessary evil. GLISRA has been my preference the past 11 years, but as we get further away from what it started as, I'm keeping my eyes open. Maybe with the USRA wing Nats at Chicagoland Raceway next year, Bernie will twist my arm hard enough I'll finally give in.

I wanted to mention that there are the "fun races" usually twice a month run by Ricky D. and crew hosted by Chicago area raceways.
They usually have at least one retro event on the race card, F1, Can-Am or WSC Coupe. The other races are a pick 2 (sometimes 3) of Group F wing, 4" NASCAR group 10, GT-12, LMP and GTP.
"Fun Racing" IMO is a return back to a less serious time in the past when people got together to enjoy running their cars and didn't have so much of a "checkers or wreckers" attitude.
I try to copy the race dates and info to Slotblog when I am notified.
