Eight slot heads showed up to race Sports Car and Trans-Am at STR on 8/12/19. This race marked Mikes trial by fire. After only a few weeks of practicing he was ready to mix it up with the group and did surprisingly well.

Track conditions were quite good as Bob cleaned and sprayed prior to the race. Racing was close as usual.

Sports Car

Rich, Joe, James and Bob battled for bragging rights in the Sports Car race. In an early heat, and after a de-slot, James Ford GT rammed Richs Modena violently. This dismembered the Ferraris rear panel. Oh well, a bit of plastic welder will put the Ferrari back together. Rich managed a win with 90.1 laps. Joe ran an unbelievably consistent race (97.34%) to finish second with the slowest car of the top four with 89.3 laps. Meanwhile James and Bob battled for the bottom step of the podium. In the end, Bob edged out James by a mere two sections.

Trans-Am

James and Bob, both driving Firebird Trans-Ams were able to break the magic five second barrier. Rich and Joe were about .1 seconds off of that pace. James drove the most consistent race of the four and finished first with a personal best of 91.2 laps. Bob was second nearly two laps behind the leader. Joe and Rich battled for the bottom step of the podium. In the end, Joe beat Rich by about a lap to finish third.
